After the Match against Pakistan – we thought – srilankan team chances of reaching finals were ruled out.
But after yesterday’s match – there is still chance for Srilanka to reach finals
Here is the calculations
In tomorrow’s match Pakistan has to beat India
& In last league – Srilanka has to beat Bangladesh with Bonus Points -
Pakistan will top the table with 13 points (Today’s match pakistan assuming it gets 4 pts)
India will finish with 4 Points with a win against Sri Lanka
Bangladesh will finish with 4 points with a win against India
Srilanka will finish with 5 points with a win against Bangladesh (with bonus points)
Sri lanka chances of reaching finals entirely depends on today’s match between Pakistan and India.
Let us hope atleast a possibility of SRILANKA reaching the finals with this permutation and combination.
Good Luck to Mahela and team
well i think that the poor coordination of the players is the result of their average performance against the mighty team espicially the indians, south africa etc .At last but not the least i would suggest that till each and every player will not recognize their responsibility towards the team upto that instance srilankan team cannot win matches.(Best of luck for the asia cup)
Is suranga lakmal in the international standard???? shaminda Eranga is much better compared to him. And kapugedara, always a failure..
srilanka should play with confident to win sl vs pak match then win sl vs bangl match with bonus point so that mean, no need worry getting into final!
If Upul Tharanga plays, he should bat at No.3.
Drop Kapugedara and bring in any schoolboy cricketer. This new guy, doen’t matter who might be, will be better than Kapugadara
I am surprised to see Sanga hitting that shot by whcih he got out. It was one solitary fielder there and he foundthe fielder regardless of the bad ball what should have dispatched onto the offside. Very very irresponsible batting after consuming many balls.
Chamara Kapugedera. this guy cant bowl. Cant field, can’t bat obviously, why why why he is in the team in the first place. c mon guys you paid thousands of dollars during the CB series
to bring him down under how much he made? rediclously only 7 runs. I have 3 words for him loooser. looser looser.
SLan selectors of last 25 ys have been responsible for all these blunders because they have always preferred henchmen to quality players maintaining consistency. While all other countries employ solid batsmen of Samaraweera’s class (who can carry the bat till the end) as Top-order, whereas SL’s selectors employ 3 reckless hitters as their 3 main batsmen. The hallmark of a good batsman is (middle the ball as de Villiers & Amla of SA do ) to play the ball all along the ground, right from the middle of the bat when it matters most but none of the seniors seems to have those required skills.
What they always do better is they go to bat at very important batting positions spent some time with their risky strokes (with number of straight forward chances) and get out going for a fancy stroke ( when a batsman try to survive with too many risky strokes, he definitely would enhance confidence level of opposition bowlers that is why a team needs solid batsmen as top order.) in dragging the whole team into deep trouble it is difficult for an even batsmen of Mathews class to overcome such situations(at night it is even more difficult). As we all know the 3 seniors came to the party only after Samaraweera, Chandimal, Thirimanne & Mathews (All 4 have been brilliant schoolboy crickters maintaintaining consistency that have forced their way into the team) brought some stability to the Country’s batting. The 3 seniors failed miserably in Pakistan, England, and SA and even in the early matches of CB series.
On the other hand the selectors don’t want to employ Senanayake the most successful spinner in the Domestic scene, because if shines they won’t be in a position to bring in their other henchmen into the team for the incoming England Tour as they did in 2007 in employing a batsman from Panadura whose 1st Class Bat Ave at the time was less than 24 at the time,as a opener. It is very disgusting to note these dubious decisions of selectors not being highlighted in any of these local media. There was no place for this kind of rubbish happenings at the time of well respected Cricket Journalists the likes of MR Loucian de Zoysa (the father of slain journalist Richard de Zoysa) and MR Bertie Wijesinghe were in business.
A team needs to employ 2 quality spinners and 2 pace men in every Team, because bowlers do hunt in pairs, therefore it is always difficult for one to apply pressure when there is average bowler (Dilshan, a wicket keeper in his entire career, used as a main-spinner is a thing only an idiot would do.) is getting hammered on the other end thus enhancing the confidence level of the batsmen. A team should have 6 batters of Samraweera’s class 5 genuine wicket taking bowlers, maintaintained consistency thoughout their careers.
The selector’s job is meant for intelligent Crickters who have exceled as batsmen who has widely read and studied about the Game, just because somebody has represented the Country for few matches alone won’t make a good selector. Most importantly selector should always prepare to play the BEST(but not the player that the selector think to be best but those who have proven themselves) even if the player in question was the selector’s worst enimy’s son, however as fans, we don’t see that kind of selections has been taking place for the last 25 years.
Mahela & Sanga played some good cricket.
Sri Lankan Board should understand in selecting players like Lakmal,Kapugedhara & prassanna – Jeevan mendis could have been given chance at least in this tournament.
Losing 4 wickets in Batting Power play really turned the match around.
Once again Kapugedhara failed to proove. Mahela should also think of lowering order of Dinesh Chandimal – Tharanga can be given chance to play @ 2nd down.
SRI LANKA will have to play some good cricket in forth coming two matches & have to keep the chances of getting into finals.
Again Sri Lanka team disappointed the fans
Selection policy needs to be changed , there’s no point in playing Lakmal, Kapugedara.
Lakmal is good for Test Matches & brings one or two odd wickets, contrastingly he’s inconsistent in the one day format gives away easy runs. Kapugedara is not suited to play in the team he’s unable to keep up with preasure and just throw his wicke awayt.
Pls follow a rotational policy and bring in banuka, shaminda Eranga, Angelo Perera.etc,
Currently team is loosing momentum due to inconsistency among some players
we understand this but for some reason selectors think otherwise. For them there is no life beyond kapu. Bhanu, anjelo perera will have to wait till ???????????????
