Media Release Sri Lanka Cricket Coaching Department’s request to the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking International recognition for the home developed ‘Level 2 Cricket Coaching Course’ was accommodated when the ICC decided to send one of their nominated staff as an observer during the delivery of a said Course which is to be conducted in June 2015. Media Release Kumar Dharmasena recently held a workshop for the Level I / II domestic umpires at the SLC headquarters. The ICC Elite Umpire took time to educate the umpires on the topics of Preparation before a match, Concentration , Improving your focus through routines, Practice makes Perfect, Positive personal belief, Anticipate challenge, Staying calm under pressure, and overcoming set backs. Kumar also answered questions that were put forward by the participants to improve in their umpiring. The session was initiated by the Chairman Interim Committee Mr. Sidath Wettimuny.
Media Release The International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced strict measures to International Cricket in the year 2014 in an effort to counter all bowlers who were believed to be having suspect bowling actions playing International Cricket. At this time SLC who have also be burdened with this same issue over the years locally also decided to clamp down on bowlers who were having an unfair advantage in delivering a ball in domestic Club & School Cricket in 2014/15. On an initiative of the newly appointed Chairman and the Interim Committee of SLC, a comprehensive soft skills development program has been launched recently by SLC for Cricketers of all categories and age groups, covering a wide range of realms which would empower them with essential life skills in a wider spectrum. Having done an in-depth study of knowledge gaps of our players, Human Resources department of SLC, in its training need analysis has identified 11 areas to be encompassed in this enthusiastic program namely General English, Presentation skills development, Sports Psychology, Social etiquette, Personal grooming, Basic IT skills, Leadership training, Finance and Investment Management, Cricket history and spirits of the game. Under the overseas player program two outstanding school boy cricketers Chamika Karunaratne of Royal College and Lasith Lakshan of St. Thomas College, Matara have been selected to play in the UK County Championship. Out of seven cricketers these two were selected by the SLC UK Committee. The SLC UK committee will be responsible for the well being of the cricketers and undertakes all expenses related to them during their stay in UK. An educational workshop was conducted by SLC for SLSCA comprising of 67 Schools from the Division 1 & 2 Schools in the Country. The outcome of the workshop was mainly focused on problem faced by many Schools in the Country with regard bowlers who have been suspended from bowing in inter Schools matches pertaining to reports sent by umpires to SLC. The conducted workshop enlightened the participants on the technicalities of suspect bowling actions educating them on the issues faced by all parties involved with the sport. This programme is conducted by Simon Taufel – ICC Umpire Performance & Training Manager who has been an ICC Elite Panel umpire for several years. International Umpires from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are taking part in this training programme.
