Media Release Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that Mahela Jayawardene has tendered his resignation from Test cricket. Addressing a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of SLC Mr. Ashley De Silva, Mahela Jayawardene has stated that he would like to retire from Test cricket after the forthcoming Test series against South Africa and Pakistan. Mahela Jayawardene has stated that ” It was not an easy decision to make given that it has been a great privilege and honour representing my country during the past 18 years, but I believe this is the right time”. The former Captain of Sri Lanka reiterated that he is fully committed to playing ODI cricket for Sri Lanka.
Ashan Priyanjan named as Captain of the Sri Lanka A team for the tour of England and Ireland, replacing Upul Tharanga who will be part of the National squad for the upcoming South Africa Test series. Kusal Janith Perera appointed as the Vice-Captain of the team. This tour will begin on the 14th of July and go on till the 25th August 2014. Quinton de Kock, the wicketkeeper, and AB de Villiers, the captain, hit aggressive hundreds to carry South Africa to an 82-run win over Sri Lanka in the third and final One-Day International on Saturday (July 12). The win gave South Africa a 2-1 series win, its first in an ODI series on Sri Lankan soil. De Kock smashed 128 off 127 balls, while de Villiers was even more aggressive, taking only 71 balls for his 108. Media Release The National Selectors have decided to include Lahiru Jayaratne for the “Sri Lanka A Team’s tour to England & Ireland” as replacement for Upul Tharanga who will be part of the National squad for the upcoming South Africa Test Series. Further, with accordance to the medical advice received with reference to Thisara Perera, the Selectors have decided to rest him from the A Team Tour to England & Ireland. Thisara will be replaced by Right-arm medium fast bowler Ishan Jayaratne.
Media Release Sri Lanka Cricket has received the ICC Bowling Action Legality Assessment Report pertaining to Sachithra Senanayake. It was conducted by the Cardiff Metropolitan University – Cardiff School of Sport in England. The Standard ICC Illegal Action Testing Protocol was used to assess the degree of elbow extension from the point of upper arm horizontal to ball release within the bowling action. 15-degree elbow extension threshold was exceeded in the four deliveries considered to be suspect in the 4th ODI played at Lords. The report concludes that Sachithra bowled with an illegal bowling action and consequently he is banned from bowling in international cricket, effective immediately. This matter will be referred to the SLC Cricket Committee for their recommendation.
