It is with deep regret that Sri Lanka Cricket announces the passing of Mr. K.T. Francis – Former Test Umpire of SLC. Umpire Kandiah Francis, who officiated in Sri Lanka’s inaugural Test match against England at the P Sara Oval in February 1982, died on Sunday in hospital after losing his battle against diabetes. Francis was 73 years old. Francis was a member of the ICC international panel of umpires and officiated in 25 Tests between 1982 and 1999, and 56 ODIs in that period which included two World Cups in 1996 and 1999. This is with reference to the Hindi song which was played while the Sri Lankan National Flag was paraded onto the field, at the opening ceremony of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy in England. As concerns raised by the Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr. Nishantha Ranatunga to the ICC regarding the above matter , The International Cricket Council Tournament Director Chris Tetley has written to SLC regretting the incident. He further stated that the ICC will take this matter for discussion with the Event Management Company who were entrusted to handle the opening ceremony.
Media Release The Coach Education Unit of SLC will be conducting a ‘Level 1 Coach Educator’ Course for selected Provincial & District Coaches from the 11th to 13th June at the ‘Max Academy’ located at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. The whole purpose of this exercise is to cater to the growing demand throughout the Country for many who would like to join the Cricket Coaching Industry by enhancing their knowledge & obtaining a qualification by following the SLC Level 1 Cricket Coaching Course which is endorsed by the ‘International Cricket Council’. Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that with regard to the mishap that took place at the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy in England, Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Mr. Nishantha Ranatunga wrote to Mr. Dave Richardson CEO of ICC, requesting a clarification on the incident & as to how ICC intends to rectify this mishap. Sri Lanka Cricket will keep the media updated on the outcome of this clarification.
The Tournament Committee at the meeting held yesterday decided to postpone the scheduled Under 23 Division 1 tournament by one week, due to the bad weather conditions experienced and requests made by some clubs citing inability to prepare wickets. Based on the above, the Division 1 tournament will commence on the 14,15,16th June 2013and the matches scheduled for the 7,8,9th of June will be played on 26,27,28th July 2013. The Under 23 Division 2 will be on schedule starting 15,16th June 2013.
North Central Province – Talent Search/Coach Education/MIC Program Conducted Talent Search Program (age group) SLC National Coaching Department on 28th May 2013 conducted an Cricket ‘Talent Search’ program at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium. The main objective of this exercise was to search for young talent at age group level. The training program was attended by (148) Cricketers from the ages of (14) to (19) years old. The Cricketers represented the districts of Kurunegala/Matale/Anuradhapura & Polonnaruwa. Cricketers who attended the program were from various Schools in the North Central Province, Cricketers identified with talent will continue to work closely with the respective District & Provincial Coach, while any Cricketers identified with extreme talent will be drafted to the National age group squads… Read More →
Media Release Sri Lanka Cricket read with surprise, an account of an incident that supposedly lead to the filing of an anti corruption report during the Indian tour of Sri Lanka in 2010 and the subsequent withdrawal of the said report due to ‘arm twisting’ by the BCCI. We wish to state that such an incident did not take place as alleged and no report was submitted to the Indian Team Manager nor was an incident report filed with the Anti Corruption Unit of the ICC who were present during the series. Talent Search Program (age group) SLC National Coaching Department on the 21st of May 2013 conducted an Cricket ’Talent Search’ program at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The main objective of this exercise was to search for young talent at age group level. The training program was attended by over (70) Cricketers from the ages of (14) to (19) years old. The Cricketers represented districts such as Galle, Matara & Hambantota. SLC over the years have had many Cricketers from the Southern Province who have represented the Country & still to date SLC keeps a close watchful eye in this part of the Country from where Cricketers show great promise & eventually the most talented go on to don the National cap one day. Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that due to an injury to his ankle, Chanaka Welagedara has been replaced by Dilhara Lokuhettige for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy to be played in England. The Minister of Sports Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage has approved the above replacement. SLC have written to the ICC Event Technical Committee regarding this replacement. The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.

Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that Chanaka Welegedara & Faveez Maharoof will not take part in the Final of the SLC Presidents Trophy to be played on Monday due to injury. Chanaka Welegedera Right foot / ankle pain on delivery stride. Came off immediately and is currently unable to put any weight through right foot. He is getting scans over the weekend and will have the results by Monday. Farveez Maharoof Low grade right groin strain while bowling. Based on early clinical signs the likely recovery time is approximately two weeks.

STAR Sports to produce live broadcast coverage of four of six warm-up matches The ICC has announced the schedule of warm-up matches to be played in the lead-up to the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 to be staged at Cardiff Wales Stadium, Edgbaston and The Oval from 6 to 23 June. The matches will be played from 30 May to 4 June at the three tournament venues. In line with previous ICC events, none of these matches will carry official ODI status.
