Media Release The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket at its meeting held today (April 28th) approved the appointment of Marvan Atapattu as the Head Coach of the National Cricket team and Ruwan Kalpage as the Interim Assistant Coach. These appointments are in effect immediately till the conclusion of South Africa’s tour to Sri Lanka this year. The Executive Committee further approved the recommendation made by SLC’s Chairman Cricket Committee, Chairman Selection Committee and Head of Coaching to appoint former Sussex County Captain and former Surrey County Coach Chris Adams as a Consultant for the upcoming tour of England.

It is great sadness that Sri Lanka Cricket announces the demise of Mr. Neil Chanmugam who passed away at the age of 74 years last night. A former All Ceylon & Sri Lanka Cricketer Neil Chanmugam played for his mother country from 1960 to 1974. Neil Chanmugam played for SSC & Sri Lanka as a Right-hand hand off break bowler. Media Release SLC has received numerous inquiries from the Media in relation to England and Wales Cricket Board’s interest in recruiting Paul Farbrace as one of their coaches. Unfortunately, Paul Farbrace has not been in communication with SLC on this subject matter at this point of time. Efforts to contact Paul Farbrace, who is currently in England have proved futile. However, ECB has communicated to us their interest in considering Paul Farbrace to be recruited as one of their coaches. Media Release Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that Mr. Kumar Sangakkara has tendered his retirement from T20 International cricket. Addressing a letter to the Chairman of Selectors, Kumar Sangakkara has stated that “It is the right time to retire allowing SLC an opportunity to build a team for the next World Twenty20 and also to allow him to focus on Test and ODI cricket during the coming months”. Mr. Ashley De Silva, Chief Executive Officer of SLC has received an electronic copy of the letter from Kumar Sangakkara.
