Sooriyawewa to get a new lease of life


21st May 2017, Hambanthota; President SLC Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala and members of the Executive Committee today (21) undertook an inspection of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium (MRICS) in Sooriyawewa, Hambanthota. The stadium which had fallen into a state of disrepair is to be renovated ahead of the Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka at the end of June this year, and will host 3 of five One Day International matches of the tour. A comprehensive assessment of the Stadium and its facilities was undertaken by M/s Design Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, whose report was tabled at the Executive Committee of SLC. SLC Announces Premier International Insurance scheme for Contracted Players

Colombo, 18th May 2017: Sri Lanka Cricket today (18) announced it had obtained a comprehensive worldwide insurance coverage for all its contracted national players. The coverage which is underwritten by a reputed global insurance giant and provides the players with substantial increase in medical and well as personal accident benefits. The scheme which comes into effect immediately will see each player receive a health benefit of up to 900,000 GBP (approximately Rs. 180 Million) per annum, and a Life insurance benefit of up to 5,000,000 USD (approximately Rs. 750 Million) in the event of death or disability. President SLC visited the District Cricket Associations of the Southern Province


Colombo 8th May 2017, President Sri Lanka Cricket Hon.Thilanga Sumathipala yesterday (7) visited the District Cricket Associations of the Southern Province together with several members of the Executive Committee. The Executive members inspected the ground and infrastructure development currently underway at the Bandaragama Ground and engaged in discussions with the officials of the Kalutara District Cricket Association led by Mr. Priyantha Algama, the General Secretary prior to conducting a forum discussion with the membership. SLC Unveils first phase of Kandy High Performance Centre

Sri Lanka Cricket today (6) announced the opening of a newly completed 6 strip, state-of-theart, Indoor bowling facility at the Pallakelle International Cricket Stadium to coincide with the start of a six-day high intensity training and conditioning programme for the National squad ahead of the Champions Trophy 2017. The newly installed floodlights of the side-wickets too will be inaugurated on the 9th of May and the completion of the Indoor nets together with the Floodlighting of the side-wickets marks the completion of the first phase of SLC’s ambitious plans to establish 4 Provincial Centres of Excellence across the Nation to cater to Cricket from the grass root levels onward. Aravinda Steps down


Colombo, 5th May 2017, Sri Lanka Cricket today (5) announced the resignation of the Chairman of its Cricket Committee, Aravinda de Silva with effect from 30th June 2017. De Silva who spearheaded the Cricket Committee of SLC in discussions with SLC President stated that he was forced to step down after chairing the Committee for over a year due to personal commitments that would hinder his availability and time investment in the Committee further.
