SLC UK Committee Donates Cricket Balls to 134 Schools

Cricket balls, donated by Sri Lanka Cricket’s UK committee were distributed amongst 134 schools playing division one, two and three at a ceremony held at the Kettarama Stadium under the patronage of the Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena on Monday 8th April 2013. Representing Sri Lanka Cricket UK Committee, Ajith Dandeniya (Secretary) and the Deepal Ahangama (Committee Member) were also available to participate in the occasion. The need for such a worthwhile donation to contribute to developing the “Cradle of Cricket” at School Level was born by the fact that a significant number of schools in the outstations found that they did not have cricket balls that were suitable to play 2-day cricket. Press Release Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform that upon receiving several communications from the Maha Sangha regarding Sri Lankan Cricketers representation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mr. Upali Dharmadasa – President Sri Lanka Cricket has responded to the concerns expressed. Mr. Dharmadasa gave a full details of the discussions that took place with the Board of Control for Cricket in India & all other matters with regard to the IPL 2013. It was also mentioned that certain players had signed their contracts a few years back and the new contracts were signed in the beginning of this year. Opener Kusal Perera hit an explosive maiden half-century off 44 balls to steer Sri Lanka to a 17-run win over Bangladesh in a one-off Twenty20 international in Pallekele on Sunday. Sri Lanka, put into bat, rattled up 198 for five wickets with Perera hitting five fours and four sixes in his 64. Bangladesh finished on 181 for seven. Jeevan Mendis (37) and Thisara Perera (22 not out) provided the final flourish to the Lankan innings. Dinesh Chandimal rejects IPL offer

Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform the general public that Sri Lanka’s T20 Captain Dinesh Chandimal has turned down an offer to Play in the Indian Premier League due to his Personal Reasons. He was offered to play in the IPL a few days back as a replacement for anotherInternational player and Dinesh has decided not to accept the offer as he had made prior arrangements and is working on his batting technique with the batting coach before he embarks for the ICC Champions Trophy in England. He is also concentrating on his studies which he bagan prior to this offer from IPL and he intends to conclude his study course during this period.

Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 17th one-day century proved in vain on Thursday as Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by three wickets under the Duckworth/Lewis rain rule to win the third and final one-day international and share the series one-all. Sri Lanka looked to be in control when they ran up an impressive 302 for nine after choosing to bat first. Jayantha Dharmadasa nominated for SLC presidency

Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that at the Executive Committee meeting held today, Mr Jayantha Dharmadasa was nominated as the next President of SLC in accordance with the SLC Constitution, since all three previous nominees were deemed ineligible. Mr. Jayantha Dharmadasa has given his consent to be the President in a letter to the Executive Committee of SLC. The Minister of Sports Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage had previously given his approval for Mr. Jayantha Dharmadasa to contest the post of President of Sri Lanka Cricket.

No Objection Certificates (NOC) issued to the players for IPL

Press Release Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that discussions were held with the Minister of Sports this morning regarding the release of the Sri Lanka players for the IPL 2013.  Based on a note sent by the Minister of External Affairs regarding the safety of players and reports appearing in the electronic and print media, it was decided that the No Objection Certificates (NOC) issued to the players be restricted to exclude their appearance at any venue in the state of Tamilnadu and also to obtain the Players’ personal opinion on their willingness to participate in the event. SLC receives safety assurance from BCCI

With regard to the prevailing situation in India, Sri Lanka Cricket has written to the President and to the Secretary of Board of Control of Cricket in India and received assurances that the BCCI will take all necessary steps to ensure that the players feel safe and action will be taken to ensure that the players’ safety is paramount. BCCI also stated that they are monitoring the situation closely and will take necessary action as and when required, to request teams not to bring Sri Lankan players to Tamil Nadu if the situation escalates. Further Sri Lanka Cricket has written to the Ministry of External Affairs through the Ministry of Sports seeking advice on the prevailing situation.

Ashley de Silva appointed acting CEO of SLC

Sri Lanka Cricket is pleased to announce that Head of  Cricket Operations Mr. Ashley De Silva has been appointed as the Acting CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket with effect from 1st April 2013. Manager Umpires & Schools Cricket Mr. Carlton Bernardus will assume duties as Acting Head of Cricket Operations with effect from 1st of April 2013. The above two appointments have been ratified by the Executive Committee of SLC.

Generator Failure at Hambantota – Press Release

Press Release Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to explain the reasons behind the Generator Failure at Hambantota tonight during the first ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. 2 of the 4 light towers had failed due to both the operating generator and the standby generator for the said 2 light towers that is provided by the Ceylon Electricity Board, failing due to a technical failure. The cause of the said generator failure is to be investigated by CEB. The main pavilion stand by generator was used to provide the necessary power to the light towers.
