Sri Lankan opener T.M Dilshan will not be considered for selection for the 1st Test match against New Zealand which is scheduled to commence tomorrow at Galle International Cricket Stadium. This is due to the back injury he suffered during the ODI series. Uncapped Left handed opener Dimuth Karunaratne has been drafted in to the squad as cover for Dilshan. The Hon. Minister of Sports has approve this selection.
ICC Media Release Sri Lanka vice-captain Angelo Mathews has broken into the top five of the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI all-rounders in the latest rankings released on Tuesday, after his team’s series against New Zealand. Mathews moved up a place to fifth and also achieved his career-best rating of 331 in the fourth ODI in Hambantota. New Zealand were denied the chance to pull off a consolation victory in the ODI series against Sri Lanka when the final match in Hambantota was abandoned. The Black Caps had put themselves into a strong position by reducing the hosts to 123-8 as Sri Lanka, already 3-0 up in the series, played a carefree brand of cricket. A long delay for rain then ensued before the match was called off just before 8.30pm. Sri Lanka completed a comprehensive 3-0 series victory over New Zealand in another rain affected match. New Zealand was restricted to just 131-8 in 32 overs, with Brendon McCullum top scoring with 30, as Jeevan Mendis took 3-15 off his four overs. In reply, a lively 27 from just 28 balls from Upul Tharanga helped Sri Lanka to a useful opening stand of 36. His opening partner, Dinesh Chandimal (43) and Kumar Sangakkara (42 not out) then combined to add 87 for the second wicket. Further to the decision to change the venue of the New Zealand tour ODI’s from Colombo to Kandy due to the prevailing weather condition, the general public are advised that tickets purchased for the 2nd & 3rd of the ODI which was supposed to be played in Colombo, will be valid for the Kandy matches. The general public who will not be able to use their tickets and who require a refund for their purchased tickets are requested to collect their refunds from the SLC head office before 12.30 pm on or before the 4th of November 2012.
