Sri Lanka seals ODI series with comfortable win

Sri Lanka completed a comprehensive 3-0 series victory over New Zealand in another rain affected match. New Zealand was restricted to just 131-8 in 32 overs, with Brendon McCullum top scoring with 30, as Jeevan Mendis took 3-15 off his four overs. In reply, a lively 27 from just 28 balls from Upul Tharanga helped Sri Lanka to a useful opening stand of 36. His opening partner, Dinesh Chandimal (43) and Kumar Sangakkara (42 not out) then combined to add 87 for the second wicket. Victory was essentially sealed, despite the loss of a couple of quick wickets, with 5.4 overs still remaining and with seven wickets in hand. Courtesy: International Cricket Council

Dilshan leads Sri Lanka to convincing win

Tillakaratne Dilshan, playing in his 250th one-day international, made light of a back injury to lead Sri Lanka to a seven-wicket victory over New Zealand under the Duckworth-Lewis method in another rain-hit match on Tuesday. Former captain Dilshan suffered a sore back during the warm-up but still made an unbeaten 102 from 95 balls as the home side chased down a revised target of 197 with 11 balls to spare after Ross Taylor’s side scored 188 for six from 33 overs. Change in venue of second and third ODIs against NZ

Media Release Sri Lanka Cricket in consultation with New Zealand Cricket and Host Broadcaster Taj Entertainment Network has decided to change the venue for the 2nd & 3rd ODI’s of the the on going series against New Zealand from R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. The matches will be played on the 4th and 6th of November. Tickets issued for the 2nd and 3rd ODI’s previously will be valid for entry into the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on match day. Rain ruins Sri Lanka-New Zealand Twenty20

The opening match of New Zealand’s five-week tour of Sri Lanka was ruined by bad weather on Tuesday when the one-off Twenty20 international in Pallekele was abandoned as a no-result. The game began 45 minutes late due to rain and the visitors, having been put in to bat on a green wicket offering plenty of movement for the seamers, slumped to 24 for five in the ninth over. Bad weather then intervened again, causing the officials to reduce the match to 14 overs per side. Tim Southee, going in at number nine, top-scored with an unbeaten 21 as New Zealand eventually finished on 74 for seven.
