Media Release 18th January, 2018 Sri Lankan White-Ball Captain Angelo Mathews is currently being treated for a right hamstring tightness. The hamstring tightness has occurred, while Mathews was batting in yesterday’s Sri Lanka – Zimbabwe Match of the ongoing Tri-Series in Bangladesh. According to the team management, Mathews is currently being monitored and a decision on his participation in the next game will be taken by tomorrow.

Sri Lanka formally invites Bangladesh for the ‘Nidahas Trophy 2018’

Media Release 15th January, 2018 Sri Lanka Cricket on Sunday formally invited the Bangladesh national team for the Tri-nation T20 Series “Nidahas Trophy 2018”. The invitation was handed over to Bangladeshi Test and T20 Captain Shakib Al Hasan by Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka’s white-ball captain. Suranga Lakmal named Sri Lanka’s Test vice-captain

Media Release Sri Lanka Cricket’s National Selection Panel has appointed Suranga Lakmal as the Vice Captain of the test team touring Bangladesh. The appointment was ratified by the Minister of Sports Honorable Dayasiri Jayasekara. The Minister also ratified the 16 member squad, which will take part in the two test match series against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh poised for test of strength with Zimbabwe breathing down

TRI NATION ODI SERIES The tri-nation ODI series featuring Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, from January 15 to 27 will generate keen interest. While Sri Lanka and Bangladesh go in to the series having drawn 1-all   when they last met in 2017 in Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe registered a 3-2 maiden series win against Sri Lanka in 2017. Sri Lanka does hold a tournament leverage having won the previous tri-series when the same teams met in Bangladesh in January 2009. Former captain Angelo Mathews was reappointed Sri Lanka’s ODI and T20 captain by the national selectors in a move that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President, Thilanga Sumathipala described as a roundly unanimous decision by the national selectors on the recommendations of Head Coach, Chandika Hathurusinghe and SLCs management headed by CEO Ashley de Silva. The whole exercise was based on the new coach’s new strategy of a short term, medium and long term plan of optimising the national team to winning heights. SLC appointed Angelo Mathews as the White-Ball Captain of the National team

09th January, 2018 Sri Lanka Cricket’s National Selection Panel has appointed Angelo Mathews as the White-Ball Captain of the National team on a long term basis. Mathews, who earlier led the team in all formats, agreed to once again lead the team in the white-ball format, following a request made by the SLC President Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala. “I invited Angelo to reconsider and accept the Captaincy once again, further to the lengthy discussions I had with the Head Coach, Selectors and the Management of the SLC” said Mr. Sumathipala. The upcoming Tri-Nation ODI tournament in Bangladesh will be Mathews first assignment as the Captain. In the meantime, Dinesh Chandimal will continue to be the Captain of the Test Team.

Sri Lanka picks preliminary ODI squad for Bangladesh tour

23rd December, 2017 Sri Lanka Cricket’s National Selectors have picked a preliminary squad of 23 players to select the ODI squad for the upcoming Bangladesh tour and have asked those players not to play domestic cricket, until the team’s departure for the tour. “The players were asked not to play domestic cricket following a request made by the Head Coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and we complied with that,” said Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala, President of Sri Lanka Cricket.
