Hafeez stars in impressive win

CRICKET-PAK-SRI

Mohammad Hafeez starred in Pakistan’s convincing 113-run win over Sri Lanka on Sunday (December 22 )in the third One-Day International, first hitting a career best 140 not out and then taking 2 for 35 against Sri Lanka. Hafeez, 33, was the rock around which Pakistan put up on imposing 326 or 5, before helping bowl Sri Lanka out for 213 in 44.4 overs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The win gave Pakistan a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Hafeez, who hit 122 in the opening game in Sharjah last week, laid the foundation for Pakistan’s innings with Ahmed Shehzad, the opener, in a crucial second-wicket stand. Shehzad, who had hit a century in the second ODI, made 81 and shared in… Read More →

Sri Lanka holds nerves to level series

CRICKET-UAE-PAK-SRI

Ahmed Shehzad has been able to avoid extended lean spells with the bat in his 37-match One-Day International career till now, thanks to that determination and, after a duck and an 11 in his past two innings, the 22-year-old scripted his second three-figure score in four matches and the fourth century of his One-Day International career. Anchored by his 124, Shehzad’s highest score in international cricket so far, Pakistan posted 284 for 4 after being asked to bat. But Sri Lanka, who came agonisingly close to winning the first game, prevailed by three wickets in a wildly swinging finish in Dubai on Friday (December 20) to level the five-match ODI series. Kumar Sangakkara (58), who became only the fourth batsmen to cross 12,000… Read More →

Hafeez ton sets up Pakistan win

CRICKET-PAK-SRI

Sri Lanka goes down by 11 runs in high-scoring thriller despite late fireworks from Senanayake, Prasanna. Ask any of the world’s best batsmen, and Lasith Malinga will be a certainty on their list of the toughest bowlers they have ever faced. His wild, untamed looks and flaming mane as he sprints to crease would make any batsmen twitchy. And then his low-arm, slingy action never ceases to unsettle the most settled of batsmen. Spare a thought for a debutante then, especially if the first delivery he receives from Sri Lanka’s ace is that dreaded skiddy bouncer, which comes with a health warning. Sharjeel Khan, playing his first One-Day International, tried to duck under it, but did not bend enough and… Read More →

Perera keeps Sri Lanka on top in T20Is

CRICKET-UAE-PAK-SRI

To set an evening on fire it helps to have Tillakaratne Dilshan. Kusal Perera’s 84 was the platform on which was built Sri Lanka’s series-equalling win in the second Twenty20 International in Dubai on Friday (December 13). Kumar Sangakkara provided the finish to the highest T20 total seen at this venue, but it was Dilshan who controlled the mood and tone for Sri Lanka’s response to its loss on Wednesday evening, with a result that ensured Sri Lanka remained the No.1 ranked team in the format. It was his 48, in a 100-run opening stand with Perera that said Sri Lanka was serious and that Pakistan had better worry. Perera had already got them off to a start in the… Read More →

Afridi blitz delivers victory for Pakistan

CRICKET-UAE-PAK-SRI

Allrounder hits unbeaten 39 after taking 1 for 20 to seal three-wicket win in first T20I against Sri Lanka. Afridi walked out with Pakistan wobbling at 96 for 5 in the 15th over, chasing 146. It would be nice to suggest he coolly picked off the runs, but it would be untrue. A typically helter-skelter 39 from just 20 balls led Pakistan to an edgy three-wicket win. It was sealed, fittingly, with a paddled six over square leg off the first ball of the last over. In the process, Afridi cemented his credentials as a giant in the Twenty20 format, becoming the first man to complete the double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets, and ended a run of three… Read More →
