SLC’s novel Under-23 concept a great success

The novel Under-23 tournament concept mooted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been a tremendous boost for the country’s youth cricket at the grassroots level. The near one month tournament that concluded last Tuesday with Central Province emerging champions saw ten teams namely Central Province, Western Province North, Western Province South, Western Province Central, Northern Province, Eastern Province, North Western Province, and Uva Province in the fray. SLC Under 23 Inter Provincial Cricket tournament Finals get underway

Colombo, 31 st July 2017, Unbeaten Western Province North will meet Central Province in the final of the Under 23 Inter-Provincial Tournament, that begins today (31) at the CCC, Colombo 7. Central Province is led by Ron Chandraguptha and Western Province (North) is led by Binura Fernando. Of the 10 Teams which played in 2 groups in the first round of the tournament, the Central Province team were top of group ‘A’ having earned 47.240 points with a win and 3 drawns. Western Province (North) meanwhile come into the final undefeated with 67.450 points. Wanindu Hasaranga in super all round display as Ports open on a winning note SLPA U 23 team recorded the first win of the tournament after it kick started on 7 August 2015. Ports recorded a 7 wicket win against Air Force on the back of a super bowling effort by Damitha Silva and Wanindu Hasaranga. Air Force made mediocre scores of 116 and 169 whilst Ports cemented a strong first innings lead of 102 buy a brilliant 80 by Wanindu Hasaranga.
