Why not scrap P Sara Oval from the list of test venues? It is clearly behalving like an English pitch. Why not play at Premadasa stadium where the England bowlers would have struggled. Also the coach should teach the batters to occupy the crease for long periods of time and not be bothered if they are not scoring runs. They should have grind the English attack to the ground. Didm’t they learn anything from last year’s tour of England?
Also, teach the bowlers how to bat and occupy the crease. Everyone has to bat but the batters don’t have to bowl.
A playing a risk free innings is an special skill, one has to master those skills from very young age, no one can learn those skills overnight, therefore it is always better to employ batters who have maintained consistency from very young, the likes of S’weera (the SchoolboyCrickter/Batsman1994&1995) The players who have learn those skills at school level only can maintain that same form in their later careers.
Therefore there are no better replacements than ANGELO PERERA the Best sch’lboy Batsman 2009, the highest run getter in U-23 t’nements,(1st Cla Ba Ave45)the best batter of T/20 Tunmt of SAARC Countries; BHANUKA the Best sch’lboy Cricketer 2010& 2011, 1of the top 4 batters in the YouthWC 2010 (1st Cla Ba Ave51); UMESH KARUNARATHNA the Best sch’lboy Cricketer 2008, 1 of the top allrouders with (1st Cla Ba Ave38&1st Cla Bow Ave18), & highest wkt taker in U-23 & PreDiv 2009/2010. 3 seniors have no such school career records , that’s why they employ too many risky strokes for their survival. They may have few exciting strokes but without skills to MIDDLE THE BALLand PLAY ALL ALONG THE GROUND RIGHT FROM THE BAT & LEAVE BALLS THERE TO BE LEFT ALONE the survial needs imense luck, the probability that to happen is 1 out of 10 times. By the way M’ela, after his double century in Ahmadabad in 2010 he was able to go pass 50 only once since 2o1o in all matches played outside the Country. Therefore there is no way we could depend on these 3 seniors, known for reckless hitting, to win matches for us anylonger. We need more batters of S’weera’s class & skills(men for all seasons).
Chandimal should be brought in as the Keeper and another opening batsman who can steady the side at the top, Prasana Jayawardene has also been dissapointing behind the wickets and as a batsman. The seam bowlers need to be taken through there paces they are not consistent and do not bowl a a proper length most of the time and to the field set and cannot think and vary, like Anderson for England. With Muralithere for two decades , I am surprised our batsman cannot play spin very well in our own grounds!!. Sereious consideration for a proper bowling and batting coach to back the main coach. We also need to be able to build the players mind set, to face different situations and not fail.
Once again the 20-20 side should be a completely different side with different players as the main players can build the skills required for the test and limited over games
Once again the top order batsman have not fared well except Mahela. Sanga has been very dissapointing, felt he could not play well with the seam and the spin bowlers. England won as there top order batted with determination after the galle test. Why cant our top order do the same. Sanga shows he has no confidence any more. Had Mahela not scored 185in the ist innings at Galle, we would have lost that game as well. When is this side ever going to win a test series, especially with little suport from the top order. They should refrain the top players from playing at the IPL and also 20 -20, if we are to reach a higher ranking. Also Chandimal should be in the permanant side and given more support to stay att the crease longer. What is the batting coach doing. Equally we need a good bowling coach to back the main coach Graham Ford.
SL is suffering because selectors are very much adamant in playing very ordinary players(with average skills) who have no control over their stroke play; reckless batters, less skilled spinners that can’t spin the ball without the help of bowlers’ foot-holds and with very few variations, pace bowlers that can’t bowl to a one line& length. The National teams have to be filled with proven Schoolboy Cricketers but not with somebody’s child or players from their hometowns, just because they or their relatives are too close to selectors. You have to look for talent in schools but not elsewhere. The proven schoolboys have to be given their due place in the Side when their Confidence at its peak and their body reflexes are Lightning quick. CHANDIMAL is one good example. Some pundits had a very dubious opinion over this EXTREME TALENT just before the last WC, but Chandimal prove them wrong by his brilliant perfomances outside the Country a thing which selectors’ babes are yet to prove.
Captain and Vice Captain have to save this match – As a Night watchman Dhamika Prasad played splendidly scored 34 valuable runs to his team – whereas the top order batsmen Dilshan and Sanga failed once again. Thilan Samaraweera played a sensible innings once again in 2nd Innings but failed to stay till end of the day.
Mathews should support Mahela – and a good partnership really help srilanka shall win the series by 1 -0 by drawing this test match.
Randiv failed with bat once again. Losing 2 wickets in 90th Over of the innings is a pathetic.
Tailenders like Prasanna Jayawardene, Herath and Lakmal should support their skipper for achieving a decent score in the second innings – preferably take their second innings to TEA
Let us hope Srilanka will draw this test match and win the series.
Favouring Thirimanna over chandimal can cost this match. Thirimanne is nowhere close to the Test Cricket standards. Let him play more domestically before draft into the national side. There are bunch of players who are better than him.
If there is a Third Test match (but there isn’t !!) both Sanga and Thirimanne should be dropped
Thirimanna is a toothless and immature cricketer. He should be dropped immediately. Sanga has become toothless now. Selectors are the other bunch of toothless guys out there. Selectors you are disgusting! Go home!
Once again Mahela has showed the responsible innings with bat – took the team score to 200 +, Sanga and Dilshan failed once again. Full credit to Mathews – who is playing the match after long period of rest – excellent vice captain innings – Chance of some better score of First test match.
Thrimanne was given chance to play in place of Chandimal is a wrong decision. Rising star chandimal should have been given chance to play this match.
Surely he will become No.2 Jayawardene in the Next world cup and will play a vital role for Srilanka’s cricket.
Let us hope for some better performance of srilankan team on day 2.
