Sri Lanka’s first test captain was a Nalandian Bandula Warnapura and 1996 world champion team was led by Anandian Arjuna Ranatunga. Sri Lanka team that entered finals in 2007 were led by Nalandian Mahela Jayawardena. Sri Lanka’s first test 50, 100, 200 were scored by Anandians Arjuna Ranatunga, Sidath Wettimuny and Brendon Kuruppu.
Both schools have so far produced 29 Test players for Sri Lanka (Ananda 15 Test players Nalanda 14 Test players) and 4 of them were Test Captains. Namely Nalandian Bandula Warnapura, Anandian Arjuna Ranatunga, Anandian Marvan Atapattu and Nalandian Mahela Jayawardena.
Sri Lanka’s ever first test team had 5 players representing Ananda and Nalanda Colleges. Namely Sidath Wettimuny, Arjuna Ranatunga and Ajit de Silva from Ananda and Bandula Warnapura and Lalith Kaluperuma from Nalanda.
Sri Lanka’s World cup winning team had 4 players representing Ananda and Nalanda Colleges. Namely Arjuna Ranatunga Anandian, Roshan Mahanama, Asanka Gurusinha and Kumar Dharmasena who are Nalandians.
World cup winning year (1996) cricket board Chairman was an Anadian Ana Punchihewa and Vice Chairman was Nalandian Thilanga Sumathipala.
Also well known cricket commentators like Premasara Epasinghe, Palitha Perera, Kamal Deshappriya are Nalandians.
Nalandians Roshan Mahanama is an Elite Panel Referee of International Cricket Council and Kumar Dharmasena International Cricket Council Umpire.

Well certainly if you say CRICKET in Sri Lanka, no doubt Ananda college is in the forefront of cricket, not to mention it’s brother school Nalanda too had contributed equally. It is a very well known fact that these two schools together had done a yeoman service to SL cricket by producing cricketers of fame and world class. No other school (no offense to any other school) has matched it and doubt that it can be matched. However it is noted that very few boys from these two schools are in the current national team, hence no wonder we are unable to become champions. No sooner more Anandian’s and Nalandian’s join the team we can become champions once again. Hope it’s not going to be a long wait.
One more important question, where are the Wettamunies, Warnapuras, Kaluperumas, Ajith De Silvas, Ranatungas, Atapattus, Senevirantnes, Why are they not active? SLC must look into these people, Don’t mix up politics with cricket. Word of advise to Arjuna, Please leave your politics aside when it comes to cricket. You can do a lot to cricket, hence please do something about it fast, do your politics separately.
