Indoor facility for Uva Province at Badulla

His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapakse officiated at the opening of an indoor cricket facility in Badula on the invitation of Honorable Minister Dilan Perera, President of the Badula Cricket district Association.

This facility is keeping with His Excellency’s concept of uplifting Cricket to all Districts and Provinces round the Island namely “Gamata Cricket”.

The gala opening was graced by several dignitaries including the Chief Minister of the UVA province Honorable Siripala Silva, Sports Minister C.B.Ratnayake, Sri Lanka Cricket Officials Nishantha Ranatunga Secretary, and Ajit Jayasekera’ Additional CEO.

Taking into consideration that the UVA province is vulnerable to periodic Monsoon rains, this indoor facility built at a cost of Rs 11.3 million by Sri Lanka Cricket can host 32 schools and 40 clubs as the indoor center.

Officials at Sri Lanka cricket are very optimistic, that the newly built indoor facility will help them to source more youngsters who have the potential to represent Sri Lanka at the highest level. It is envisaged facilities of this magnitude will spread around the Island with the objective of His Excellency’s concept of “Gamata Cricket”.
