ANNEXURE 1

PROVINCIAL CRICKET PROGRAMME IN SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka Cricket launched the Provincial Cricket Programme formally in Dcember 2007 with  the following objectives in mind.

  • To harness the raw energy and the enthusiasm displayed by our youth and to finesse it to create a force that will ignite and propel Sri Lanka to the top of the cricketing world.

  • To enhance the quality and effectiveness of cricket and give players across the country an equal opportunity to showcase their skills by improving infrastructure at the Provincial & District levels and to create Centers of Excellence that will offer the players access to latest coaching and training methods.

In order to achieve the above, recognizing the need to have a highly competitive Domestic Cricket Structure, it was decided to conduct the following tournaments annually on a provincial basis.

It is believed that such a structure would enhance the quality and effectiveness of cricket being played and give the players across the country an equal opportunity to show their cricketing skills enabling them to be considered for participation at national level. This would also enable young cricketers to play together with the National Cricketers in these  tournaments and develop their technique and professionalism
