Ha very true…well said.. Premasiri :)

My opinion is that it’s really sad to see the players in the caliber Indika De Saram, Jeewantha Kulatunga, Janaka Gunaratne were not given opportunities at the right time by the previous selectors.
I’m not saying that Banuka, Kithruwan should be put straight in the National team or the A side but they should play in the President XI, development squad & may be in the A squad &
as they need to be given exposure & the confidence should be built.
The oldies I mentioned above has the talent no doubt but is it a worthwhile investment in the long run as their age 31+ means maximum of 3- 4 years of cricket, While those budding cricketers have more than 15 years & they can be groomed to world class cricketers if they are given the exposure gradually, I agree they should play club, inter provincial matches still
should be given exposure to international teams as well..
Are we going to do the same mistake to Banuka, Kithruwan etc as the previous selectors did to Indika De saram & Co, It’s sad but if Sri lankan cricket is to go ahead positively we have to sacrifice the Indika De saram & Co may be the current board should pay compensation to Indika De saram & Co.
we can be emotional & aggressive about this old players because of the injustice done to them but we need to sacrifice them thinking of the future, what else can one do, Also their chances to enter the current national team are very remote as Sangakkara & Co are very reluctant provide places for these guys
You decide which is best investment for Sri Lanka cricket in the long run ?? :)

It is unfair for some players they give only 1 or 2 chances to prove their talent. for some they give 4 or 5 chances till they reached to fifties(50’s) and hundreds (100’s) pls. do the correct thing to everybody.this is what happened to our cricket in Sri Lanka.

  • hewamunige

What about munaweera. He has scored 74 against South Aftrica A team practice match.he should have been included in the squad.

  • denisha

what happened to all those guys who complaint about janaka gunaratne, are they silent because he’s playing each and every game for the A team at the age of 30 ?im totally agreeing with pubudu and they should let younger batsman to play these games.

    • numesh

hey stupid man… talent is not depend on age…. janaka gunarathne performed well as an all rounder….that’s why he is in the squard….. ….young players like banuka, keithruvan, buddika they should get more experience in club and interprovincial levals before they will be confirmed for national or A side… janaka gunarathne, jeevantha kulatunga, indika de saram they porformed well in provincial leval …thats why they still in these squard……..

      • denisha

well wise man, according to you A team cricket is for oldies who had their chances when they were young and did not grab the opportunity?dont talk bullshit, they are good players i agree but not for international level.they will chicken out at the top level like they did when they had their chance………let these youngsters to shine.

        • guna…

@DENISHA =hey foolish denisha ……. frist learn what is cricket and then,, comment…..

Indika de Saram, Chinthaka Jayasinghe, Jeewantha Kulathunga, should have been selected before Mahela & sangakkara because they could handle the bat better ( their records too were very much better)than young Mahela & Sangakkara( 10 Years ago). Even if Mahela & Sangakkara had failed 101 times ( 2003 WC,Home series since 2007, recent Tours in Bangladesh & Zimbabwe) those shoddy performances were completely ignored by the incompetent selectors of last 15 years. It was players like above three that had to suffer most in the hands of these inept selectors. Same thing happens in present time as well with regard to Chamara Silva, Kapugedara Mubarak & Khandamby. It was very dishearten to see that the most dependable batsmen in the National side had to make way for selectors’ favorites just because he had failed in one innings. Though Chinthaka Jayasinghe & Janaka Gunarathna are 2 good choices for the coming WC, it is always better to create more opportunities for highly talented young ones.

          • denisha

oh another wise man, guna?are you janaka gunarathne commenting about himself?

  • Pubudu

    Very good squad, Cheers !!!

What about Banuka Rajapakshe… it’s time he should be taken into the frame…
at least for practice matches (Presidents XI, Development Squad etc) given to other A teams.

Also a another sound under 19 player is Kithruwan withanage he showed his stability & maturityin the last series in England & previous under 19 world cup with a string of steady runs when the team needed most, doing rearguard action. This kind of players are the gems as they are mentally strong when needed most which is still lacking in the Sri Lankan team, where lower middle order very susceptible to pressure.
Also Kushal Janith Perera another young budding player he should have been included in the squad i guess…

How can one provide opportunities for highly talented schoolboy cricketers of year 2010, when ordinary schoolboy cricketers of 2000 have still been considered for selections?
