Pl don’t cry for Jeewantha Kulathunga anymore as we have enough young batsmen to fill those vital places. He should have been selected 10 years back together with Chinthaka Jayasinghe when they were at their brilliant best. Due to the ignorance of the selectors of last 20 years, many a number of highly talented schoolboy cricketers the caliber of Sajith Fernando, Duleepa Samaraweera, Varuna Waragoda, Lanka de Silva, Sanjeeva Warusamanne,….) were not given the due recognition. The present day young talented players who have had highly successful and consistent school & domestic careers only should be considered for 2nd XI National teams. It is high time to discard all these ordinary player of the age around 30 years from the 2nd XI teams. If the talented young cricketers have not been given their due place in the National Teams at the right time, they may have dropped out from the Game for ever ( Daimiean Nadaraja & AC Amerasinghe) or sometimes lose their interest of the Game ( as in the case of Ian Daniel, Sahan Wijerathne, Lahiru Peiris, Nilushan Nonis,) since the domestic cricketers here have not been paid enough to be in the Game (and their future is not stable either in continuing with game) as they do in other Test playing countries. Incidentally most essential attributes of lightening reflexes, quick feet & hands, agility and more importantly enthusiasm & fearlessness that are required to be a successful batsman are in abundance in a young talented batsman rather than that of a seasoned player around 30 years old.
