I AGREE WITH U INDIAN THATS TRUE SANGA WANT A TEAM THAT BASE ON HIS RELATIONSHIP THATS WHY KAPUGEDARA , KANDAMBY, SAMARAWEERA STILL IN THE TEAM . SRILANKA HAVE LOT OF YOUNG AND TOP CRICKETERS LIKE JEEVANTHA KULATUNGA, INDIKA SARAM, PRASSANNA , CHANDIMAL BUT UNLUKY SELECTERS DON’T CONFIRM THEM DUE TO SANGAS INVOLVEMENT OF SELECTION EX JEEVANTA KULATUNGA IS THE BEST NO5 BASTMAN BUT NOT CONFIRM HIM AND GET KANDAMBY THATS MAD IF ARAVINDA CONFIMS SANGAS POOR IDEAS ARAVINDA WILL HAVE TO FACE SAME CONCEQUENCES AS ASANTHA

  • Indian

Sri Lanka must take a cue from INDIA about the selection of young players.
Young cricketers must not be discarded after a few performances.
    take virat kohli for example./..
His average was only 20 after his first ten matches….
He was not dropped and persisted with

Now he has scored 8 half centurys and 2 hundreds in the last 13 matches….

    SAME MUST HAPPEN TO CHANDIMAL

HE IS A TALENTED BATSMAN AND I THINK SANGA IS JEALOUS OF CHANDIMAL JUST LIKE HE WAS WITH YUVI IN IPL3/////

  • rrrr

chaminda vaas should get the oprtnty ply 4 sl agn..n i thnk thilan is a gd chc.cz he can mk vry big scres as wl as he can stblz d ings if v loos early wickts..

  • sandun

tharanga, thilan and kandambi shuld have been dropped

  • riyaz

    where is snath

  • http://slc udara

kandamby and tharanga both shouldn’t have been picked.both of them consume too many deliveries and put the pressure on the rest.and very slow in the field as well.bad choice aravida.

  • Janaka susantha

Thilan Samaraweera is not good one day player, Dinesh Chandimal ????????

  • subash

    CHAMINDA VASS ??????????

Thilina Kandamby is a liabilty in the field. Then he cannot run between the wickets. As a commentator said there is always a chance of a run out when he bats. Come aravinda, see the reality.

Comments by Premasiri shows substance and I agree with most of his comments. Aravinda shud be commended for having a conference re selections and shows transparency. But too much of it is not OK as no one will be satisfied. If a player is not selected, he can meet A personally and ask him. If a good player is dropped, A can inform the player as such before team is made public. On the whole, A can make a general statement of selections like saying Chandimal will get more opportunities on bouncy wickets in Australia and not be pressurised at once.Young players can be ruined if introduced too early. Hope he emphasises consistency in our bats and if one is a poor fielder, regardless of being a good at or bowler , he shud not have a place.
I am happy Ajantha was dropped as he is a poor fielder. Dilhara too is a bad fielder who when he last toured Australia tried to hold a catch with fingers well apart ( as schoolboys, one is taught to cup one’s hands.
Selections are good and certain decisions are done which only selectors shud know. He is going to have a time explaining andin cricket u cannot satisfy evry one.
In ODI we need tall players and power hitters who canhit the ball over the park when it is meant to be hit but not blind hitting. And tall bowlers can get more of a picth.

wat mad thilina kandamy??????????????????? HEY JEEWANTHA KULATUNGA IS THE MOST SUIT PLAYER AS WELL AS PRIVIOUS SELECTERS THIS SQUARD NAMED DEPEND ON RELATION SHIP

  • NAVEEN

chandimal, thirimanne and jeewan mendis are out due to aus a tour so one thing sure this squard will be d same squard we saw every day MR ARAVINDA U HAVE TO DO ONLY ONE CHANGE THAT CONFIRM JEEWANTHA KULATUNGA INSTEAD OF SAMARAWEERA OR KAPUGEDARA BEC KULATUNGA CAN PLAY AS A OPENER OR MIDDLE ORDER BASTMAN ALSO HE CAN BOWL AND A GOOD HITTER GOOD FIELDER expirence player i hope he will get a chance but if it will not happen srilanka cricket go down bec upcoming players will not consider interprovincial mathes bec kulatunga was the best player of last interprovincial tourment but still he struggle to get a plase

Jeevantha Kulatunga?. Are the new selectors also sidelining this talented player?. Jeevantha is the only player to score centuries in all three Prov. formats : ie. 4 dayers, 50 overs and T20 Tournaments in 2010. Dilshan like (or better) fielder, he can also bowl well as he has shown in domestc 4 dayers this year taking 4 wickets in the small number of overs given to him for bowling by Mubarak the captain while Mubarak himself bowling more than a regular bowler with no impact. (No impact, but surprisingly he is seen as a reserve somewhere). Even at a time when so many tournaments are present this talented player (Jeevantha Kulatunga) is not seen around. Where is the good governance that the new administration promised? .

  • Premasiri

This squad will be more strong, if Samaraweera, Mathews, Tharanga, Malinga &Dilhara were removed & more experienced players like Jayasuriya, Mubarak, Chamara Silva, Dilruwan Perera & Vass were included. Even if we had got Peter May, Allen Border or David Boone type selector , there won’t be any change to the squad . The plain truth is that we have dropped down to the No 7th position from No 2 position of the ODI rankings after the retirement of Marvan. We have lost almost all home ODI tournaments since 2007 & we were nearly beaten by Zimbabwe & Bangladesh in away tours in2009 with all these experienced stars . This happened so because we didn’t have a single batsman who can deliberately play the ball right along the carpet at the top in tough situations until Mathews has forced his way into the National squad. Though Samaraweera is the most proficient complete batsman of last decade, he has been sadly under used. In fact he had to make way for selectors’ favorites. He should have been our play-maker instead; he is the ideal No 3, immediately followed by Angelo Mathews. During this disastrous period of 15 years many brilliant schoolboy cricketers couldn’t make into the National side instead very ordinary players were selected at regular basis. If these favorites were not picked to play in the 1st XI, they’ve always found places in all other touring squads.
If we are to select a batsman, the thing we have to consider most is his current form & his playing history from present to his early school days. A batsman who doesn’t have skills to maintain consistency can never be any help to win a tournament in the future. Why did we win the 1996 WC? What it had mattered most? Was it risk filled stroke play of Jayasuriya, Kaluwitharana & Gurusinghe or the chanceless clean hitting of Aravinda, Hashan & Mahanama.
In this regard I rate Khausal Silva, Paranawithana, Lahiru Thrimmanne, Chandimal, Angelo Perera & Dimuth Karunarathna, Sachithra Serasinghe, Romesh Bhuddhika together with Samaraweera, Mathews, Dilshan & Upul Tharanga highly as best batsmen the country has at present. When it comes to spinners it is hard to ignore skills of tall bowlers like Sachithra Senanayake & Umesh Karunarathne for their consistency.
