Sri Lanka Cricket is honored to host the 10th Asia Cup here in Sri Lanka. We extend our gratitude to the Asian Cricket council for giving us this opportunity. Asia cup is an international tournament and was conceived in 1983, with an objective of promoting goodwill between Asian countries. The first edition of this championship was held in 1984 in the United Arab Emirates.
We are proud that the all games played in the Asia Cup have official One day international status. India and Sri Lanka have won the coveted trophy on four occasions each, while Pakistan had the honor of winning the prestigious Championship in the year 2000.
India has appeared in every final except in 1986, while Sri Lanka has appeared in every final since the Cup’s inception.
The Rangiri International Stadium in Dambulla will play host for this year’s Championship from 15th June to the 25th. All matches will be played as day night encounters.
Funds raised from the Asia Cup will be utilized to support and develop the game in the Asia region.
Sri Lanka Cricket is making elaborate arrangements to make this tournament a memorable championship. Whilst wishing all four participants namely Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka the best of luck, we have no doubt that the media will give this tournament her due publicity.
