With reference to the ICC media release dated 14/01/2010 on the above subject matter, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to make the following clarifications.
SLC carried out screening tests for each and every bowler prior to the selection of the final squad for the ICC Under 19 World Cup 2010. All bowlers actions were screened/ examined under extreme scrutiny with the help of Software aided cameras used by the SLC Coaching Division. Upon completion of the observation all bowlers taking part in the ICC U19 WC 2010 were cleared of possessing any illegal bowling actions.
The reporting of Rushan Jaleel’s action did come as a surprise to SLC as Rushan has represented the Sri Lankan Under 19 team in tours to Australia and South Africa during the last few months to take part in international engagements apart from the U19 international matches he has played in home soil. Upon completion of those encounters it is noteworthy to mention that no adverse report on his bowling action has been forwarded by any match official engaged in those tournaments from the respective countries.
SLC, whilst appreciating the concern shown by ICC, wishes to request the opinion that Jaleel be permitted to continue his bowling during the ICC U19 World Cup 2010.
