Sri Lanka under 19 squad played two practice matches yesterday in Kandy. The Selectors have their work cut out, since some youngsters who were not selected for the first two matches impressed.
At the newly constructed venue at Pallekela, Sri Lanka’s under 19 Chairmans eleven were comprehensively beaten by the Bangladesh under 19 side by 115 runs with the duck worth lewis formular being used due bad light.Andri Berenger who captained Chairman X1 will be dissapointed with his teams performance. Bangladesh who took first lease of the newly laid pitch made merry, thanks Sri Lanka’s poor bowling coupled with ordinary ground fielding. It is a practice game however it’s pertinent that the youngsters make use of given oppotunities.
The bowling was ordinary to state the least.Too many short deliveries by both the seamers and the spinners helped the visitors to score 298 runs in their alloted 50 overs.Chaturanga Kumara had 4 scalps but he too leaked too many runs by bowling to both sides of the wicket.Credit to the the young Bangladesh lads they took advantage of the Sri Lankan bowling and when it came to their turn in defending the total they got about their task with a set plan.
The young Sri Lankan’s of course played with a second string side in this match. However it’s pertinent that each player sets himself standards with the youth world cup scheduled in December this year.
