Chilaw Marians CC, SSC, NCC and Saracens through to semis

Chilaw Marians CC, SSC, NCC and Saracens won their respective quarter-final matches of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Premier Inter-Club 50-Over Tournament yesterday.

Chilaw Marians, defending 256, had to draw on all their reserves to stop a late charge by BRC as former Sri Lanka player Vikum Sanjaya struck 55 off 39 balls in rallying BRC from a hopeless 186 for 8 to within 31 runs from victory. He put on 19 for the ninth wicket with Suraj Randiv who made 11 when the latter was out with the total on 205. Sanjaya went on to bat stoutly breezing to his 50 with three quick sixes taking BRC to 226 posting 21 for the last wicket with H. Ramanayake who holed out for 6 off 8 leaving Sanjaya and his side stranded. Chilaw Marians won by 30 runs with three overs and four balls to spare.

Chilaw Marians 256 off 49.4 overs was bolstered by an 83-ball 84 by Shehan Jayasuriya who continued his prolific form in all stages of this year’s domestic tournaments. Jayasuriya struck 9 boundaries and a six.

Meanwhile, for SSC it was a one way ticket all the way breezing to an emphatic 8-wicket win over Ragama CC at the Colts Grounds. Having dismissed Ragama for 206 in 48 overs, SSC’s strong batting machinery did it in style striking off the 207 with the Sri Lanka trio of Dimuth Karunaratne striking half centuries. After Danushka Gunathilaka struck 53 off 48 clouting 6 boundaries and 2 sixes, Karunaratne stroked 70 (86b, 4×4) and Dasun Shanaka 54 (70b, 2×4,1×6) sharing in an unbroken third wicket alliance of 130 runs to finish it off.

Ragama’s 206 revolved around a top score of 48 by B.K.E.L. Milantha off 45 balls with 4 boundaries and a six. The Ragama batsmen lost their way to tight bowling by Sachithra Senanayake who claimed 4 for 25.

NCC had it easy over Colts CC chalking up a 5-wicket win at SSC grounds. Skipper Angelo Perera played an unbeaten captain’s knock of 74 off 78 balls inclusive of 9 boundaries and 2 sixes while Upul Tharanga made 72 off 83 balls inclusive of 12 hits to the fence. Farveez Maharoof remained unbeaten on a quick-fire 30 off 22 with 2 boundaries and 3 sixes. NCC made 220 for 5 off 36.4 overs having dismissed Colts for 218 in 49.1 overs. Top scorer for Colts was Thilina Gamage who made 83. Dushmantha Chameera took 5 for 51 and Maharoof 2 for 16.
