Colombo beat Kandy by 3 runs on the Duckworth & Lewis method after bad light put a premature end to the fourth encounter of the SLC 50-Over Super Provincial Tournament with Kandy on 205 for 5 wickets off 39 overs chasing a target of 290 for victory at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Electing to bat, Colombo totaled 289 for 6 wickets in 50 overs with Shehan Jayasuriya top scoring with 115 off 133 balls inclusive of 9 boundaries and 2 sixes. He shared in a 138-run fourth wicket partnership with Angelo Perera who struck a fluent 84 off 82 balls with 9 boundaries and a six. Both batsmen ran themselves out. Skipper Dinesh Chandimal made a run a ball 35 studded with 7 boundaries. Kasun Rajitha claimed 2 for 74 for Kandy.

Kandy’s run chase was stalled by bad light with 85 more required for victory off 11 overs with 5 wickets intact when bad light put a stoppage. Top scorer was Sangeeth Cooray with 82 off 100 balls inclusive of 9 boundaries while skipper Dimuth Karunaratne made 44 off 58 balls with 5 boundaries and Pathum Nissanka a run a ball 36 with 2 boundaries while Sachithra Senanayake made 23 off 26 inclusive of a six and boundary apiece. Seekuge Prasanna claimed 2 for 55 for Colombo.
