Sri Lanka in the past two months have been plagued with injuries to senior players, which started revolving around while on tour to India. The latest casualties will hurt the side badly as TM Dilshan; Sri Lanka’s prolific run scorer is nursing a groin injury that will keep him out from the playing field for some time.
Meanwhile Charmara Silva is also nursing a probable finger fracture. Team Manager Brendon Kuruppu confirmed that both players will not be available for today’s game. Dilshan is in hospital for an MRI scan, while Silva’s’ injury has to be officially confirmed by team physiotherapist Tommy Simsek.
Secretary Nishantha Ranathunga stated that the selectors will name the replacement players for Dilshan and Chamara Silva, after confirming same with the Hon Minister of Sport Mr. Gamini Lokuge.
The players who are nursing injuries are Mahela Jayewardene, Muttia Muralitheran, Angelo Mathews, Dilhara Fernando, TM Dilshan and Chamara Silva.
Sri Lanka, despite injuries to their senior players is building a strong bench dominated by young hopefuls who will want to be counted as the challenge to prove themselves is at hand.
The youngsters also know in the back of their mind that world class all rounder Sanath Jayasuriya is available, while Chamara Kapugedera and Lasith Malinga are still in the equation.
