Dilshan, Perera star in SL win

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Thisara Perera starred as Sri Lanka levelled the one-day international series against Pakistan with a comfortable 76-run victory in the second ODI in Pallekele.

Dilshan scored an unbeaten 119 off 139 balls, while Mahela Jayawardena’s half-century and a late blast from Perera helped the hosts reach 280 for four.

Despite Azhar Ali making 96, Perera took his career-best 6-44, as Pakistan was all out for 204 to ensure the series is now tied at 1-1.

Earlier, Dilshan hit one six and 11 fours in his 139-ball 119 not out for his 13th one-day hundred to boost Sri Lanka’s hopes of levelling the five-match series in the day-night match in Pallekele.

Sri Lanka, who lost the opening one-dayer by six wickets on Thursday, batted steadily as Dilshan added 70 for the third wicket with Dinesh Chandimal (32) and 86 for the next with skipper Mahela Jayawardene (53).

He reached his century in the 43rd over when he pulled paceman Umar Gul for a single and then smashed fast bowler Sohail Tanvir over mid-wicket for the first six of the match.

Sri Lanka scored 56 runs in the last six overs, with Thisara Perera hitting two sixes and as many fours in his unbeaten 24 off just 14 balls.

Jayawardene was bowled by off-spinner Saeed Ajmal soon after completing his half-century, hitting eight fours in his brisk 45-ball knock.

Off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez, Tanvir and leg-spinner Shahid Afridi were the other wicket-takers for Pakistan.

Tanvir struck in his fourth over when he had opener Upul Tharanga (18) caught behind and then Hafeez held a return catch to remove Kumar Sangakkara (18) with his first delivery.

But there was no stopping Dilshan, who continued to gather runs comfortably and completed his half-century with a four off Afridi.

Pakistan made one change from the team which won the first match as they brought in debutant paceman Rahat Ali in place of injured Mohammad Sami, while Sri Lanka retained the side.

    Hi.

Sri Lanka Cricket is in the shadow of politics. Still the humanity of our cricketers sails the ship to the shores under great difficulties. Sri Lanka cricket is blessed to have committed lads playing for our country. We have seen how teams like Zimbabwe and West Indies crumble while their players abandon their nation to take arms else where. Our cricket board is playing games with our cricket team. Bad decision making is part of life of these days.Bold selections such as Upul Tharanga, Dilhara Feranando highlights the naive thinking. Have we not learnt any lessons?? Name one game, where these players have aided our side to win a game. I cant think of any, Can you??. We do have good players such as Thissara, Angelo, Sachitra, Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru and Chandimal in our ranks. Their is no space for a player with one specialty in our side. All Rounders and Keeper-Batsmen should be the motive. Our One day team should consist 1) T.M Dilshan 2) Lahiru Thirimanna 3) Kumar Sangakkara 4) Dinesh Chandimal 5)Mahela Jayawrdena (C) 6) Angelo Matthews 7) Thissara Perera 8) Nuwan Kulasekera 9) Rangana Herath/Ajantha Mendis 10) Nuwan Pradeep 11) Lasith Malinga.

I am sorry about my earlier post missing Mahela’s name by accident. Thats a huge mistake. Deepest Apologies.
