The first unofficial test match between Sri Lanka A and Bangladesh A ended in a high scoring draw at Chittagong on Friday. The Lankans, having dismissed the home team for 414 in reply to their first innings total of 449 runs for 8 wickets declared, continued their run spree piling up 262 for only 2 wickets on the fourth and final day at Chittagong. Dimuth Karunaratne, who led Sri Lanka A having missed the tour of West Indies through injury, was in splendid form striking 161 off 165 balls inclusive of 23 boundaries and a six having scored 60 in the first essay. Another plus point was the batting performances of youngsters Charith Asalanka who made 90 and Shammu Ashan 70 respectively in the first innings.
Lahiru Thirimanne was unbeaten on 67 off 121 balls with 5 boundaries and a six displaying fine form in the wake of his first innings knock of 168. The pick of the Lankan bowlers when Bangladesh batted was off spinner Lakshan Sandakan who reaped 5 wickets for 108 runs while Prabath Jayasuriya took 3 for 83 as the home team had two centurions in Sabbir Rahman who made 165 off 287 deliveries containing 16 boundaries and 2 sixes, and skipper Mosaddek Hossain 135 off 243 studded with 9 boundaries and 3 sixes.
