Colombo, 4th July 2014: Sri Lanka has the honour of being the first stopover on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Trophy Tour. The ICC Cricket World Cup trophy, which is making its way around the world, was received at the airport today by Sri Lanka Cricket team’s current captain and vice-captain.
Fans will have a unique opportunity to catch a glimpse and even get up close to the much coveted World Cup trophy at a special unveiling event at Galle Face Green on Saturday, 5th July. The 2015 World Cup trophy will be unveiled amidst well known cricketing names and fans will also be able to take a picture with the trophy. A papare band and various games are lined up in order to fuel the quintessential, fun-filled cricket atmosphere and fans will stand a chance to win ICC World Cup Merchandize. Cricket enthusiasts will have the opportunity to interact with Angelo Matthews and Lahiru Thirimanne, Captain and Vice-Captain of the Sri Lanka Cricket squad and a signature board will be set up at Galle Face Green for well-wishers to send their wishes and messages for the Sri Lankan Cricket team, in lieu of the ICC Cricket World Cup next year.
The prestigious trophy will be in the island till 6th July 2014 and will also be on display during the first One-Day International between Sri Lanka and South Africa at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, the 6th of July.
