Sri Lanka Cricket President, Thilanga Sumathipala, addressing the media to announce the outcome of the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) at the SSC Special Marquee on Saturday, expressed absolute confidence of his team being reelected at the forthcoming SLC annual general meeting scheduled to be held on May 31.
“I have no whatsoever doubt as to the victory of my team at the upcoming AGM and can say that it will be a resounding triumph,” Sumathipala said while announcing that except for the current SLC Secretary, Roshan Biyanwala, all other ex-co members would be seeking reelection at the AGM.
He further stated that ‘we have been involved in cricket administration for a considerable period of time. There are 84 cricket clubs affiliated to the cricket board out of which a majority of 64 have nominated my name for the SLC presidency. It is a clear indication as to the majority choice.’
The following EGM committee members were appointed to conduct the forthcoming AGM: Rasika Weeratunga – Attorney-at-law, Air Commodore Sanath Uthpala, Buddhika Illangathilaka – Attorney-at-law, Jude Perera – nominee from the Auditor General’s Department, and Devagiri Bandara – a former member of the Public Trustees Board.
Commenting on their appointment the SLC President said, “The five committee members received the unanimous approval of the membership of the EGM.”
Answering a question, Sumathipala said that preparations for the AGM would not in any way hamper the staging of the Premier League Tournament scheduled to be staged shortly.
