India down Ausatralia by 36 runs: West Indies vs. South Africa abandoned


In the heavyweight contest of the 2019 ICC World Cup India beat Australia by 36 runs on the back of Shikhar Dhawan’s fine 117, coupled with 82 from captain Virat Kohli and an entertaining 48 by Hardik Pandya at the Kennington Oval on Sunday. Winning the toss,India posted a massive 352 for 5 in 50 overs and bowled out Australia for 316 in 50 overs.

Australia, after a World Cup record chase, fell back on the run rate after David Warner’s slow start consuming 84 balls for 56 despite despite Steve Smith’s 69as David Warner spent 84 balls making 56.

Even a late rally by Alex Carey who hit the fastest half century in the world cup off 25 balls could not steer Australia as wickets kept falling and the run-rate rising. It was the reigning champions first defeat of the tournament.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed Adam Zampa with the last ball of the match to finish with 3 for 50 and Jasprit Bumrah 3 for 61. Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged Player of the Match.

The much looked to 15th match world cup  match between the West Indies and South Africa was abandoned due to persistent rain yesterday Monday at Southampton. South Africa,batting first was 29 for 2 wickets  off 7.3 overs when rain intervened. Cottrell dismissed both openers. Accordingly both teams shared 1 point each.
