India Under-19 won the fourth one-day match against Sri Lanka Under 19 by 135 runs at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa on Tuesday. With this win the Indians levelled the 5-match series 2-all to set up a decisive final clash at the same venue on Friday, August 10. The host team was handicapped by the absence of five of its players who did duty in the previous games as they were sitting the GCE (A.L) Examination.
Batting first, India Under-19 scored 278 for 6 wickets in 50 overs and dismissed the host team for 143 in 37.2 overs. The Indian innings was anchored by opening batsman D. Padikkal who scored 71 off 91 balls hitting 8 boundaries and a six. He shared in a productive second wicket alliance of 94 runs with Pawan Shah who made 36 off 43 containing 3 hits to the ropes. From there, skipper A. Juyal struck 60 off 67 inclusive of 5 boundaries to prop up But the total to 240 for 4 sharing in a 92-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Y.V. Rathod who scored 56 off 60 balls paced with 5 boundaries.
S.T. Mendis claimed 2 for 37 and S.A. Lakshan 2 for 48 respectively for the Sri Lanka Under-19.
The Lankans run chase suffered an early blow losing opening batsman K. Mishara for a duck with the total on 4 but recovered by an inspiring second wicket alliance of 60 runs in 13.1 overs between N.D. Paranavithana who made 45 off 59 balls inclusive of 6 boundaries and a six and skipper Nipun Dananjaya Perera who struck 36 off 56 with one boundary. But after Paranavithana’s exit, the host collapsed to 74 for 4 in 18.4 overs. Nipun Dananjaya Perera was fifth out with the total on 99 which came in the halfway mark of 25.5 overs. After his exit Sri Lanka Under-19 lost the last 5 wickets for 44 runs.
Doing the damage with the ball for India Under-19 were A. Badoni who took 3 for 35 and Harsh Tyagi 3 for 37.
