The Sri Lankan provincial champions, Wayamba Elevens are set to take the Champions League T20 by storm with a strong backing from Indian Companies as their sponsors. The star studded team which include the likes of Mahela Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis , Farveez Maharoof and Captain Jehan Mubarak are set to open their Champions League innings on Sept 11th 2010.
Despite three Indian teams participating in the tourney, there is no shortage of Indian sponsors backing the provincial champions. Strategic intent and a growing Sri Lankan economy are posing attractive growth opportunities for Indian companies to foray into the Sri Lankan market. Rightly so, companies have chosen cricket as a marketing platform to tap the island nation.
Companies in the fray namely Kunnath Pharmaceuticals, Karbonn Mobiles and the apparel partner-Skechers (Future Brands) will be associated with Wayamba Elevens at the Champions League T 20 in South Africa starting September 10th. The growing popularity of Sri Lankan players with their participation in the IPL coupled with frequent bi-lateral ties between India & Sri Lanka also serves an attractive proposition for these companies to associate with Sri Lankan Cricket.

However, it could not be more fitting that well respected Indian companies from high growth sectors within India such as pharmaceuticals, telecom and financial services would sponsor the Wayamba Elevens team, thereby expressing confidence in not only the Wayamba Elevens team’s potential to grow and progress within the Tournament, but also the potential of Sri Lanka, as a nation, to grow.”
