India A beat Sri Lanka A by 48 runs in the first unofficial ODI played at the Union Gymkhana Grounds, Belgaum yesterday June 6. Batting first,, India A ran up a massive score of 317 for 4 wickets in their allotted 42 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka A made 269 for 6 wickets in 42 overs.
India’s total revolved around a marathon unbeaten 187-run knock by Player of the Match Ruturaj Gaikwad off 136 balls inclusive of 26 boundaries and 2 sixes. He was associated in a 163-run alliance for the second wicket with Anmolpreet Singh who made 65 off 67 balls hitting 6 boundaries. Ishan Khan chipped in with 45 off 34 containing 4 boundaries and a six. For Sri Lanka A, paceman Lahiru Kumara returnred figures of 3 for 62.
Sri Lanka’s innings suffered the setback of losing openers Niroshan Dickwella for 19 and Sadeera Samarawickrema for a duck and were 2 for 22 before Jehan Jayasuriya stepped in at No.4 to strike a superb unbeaten 108 off 120 balls studded with 8 boundaries and 2 sixes in reviving the innings with Bhanuka Rajapaksa (29 off 37, 1×4, 2×6) adding 59 for the third wicket. With Rajapaksa falling with the total on 81 for 3 off 17.2 overs, skipper Ashan Priyanjan joined Jayasuriya posting 51 for the fourth wicket as Sri Lanka A reached 132 for 4 off 22.4 overs when Priyanjan was dismissed for 29 off 15 deliveries inclusive of 2 boundaries and sixes apiece. With the dismissal of Kamindu Mendis for 9 in the 26th over at 145 for 5, Jayasuriya found support from Dasun Shanaka who struck 44 off 31 with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes taking the total to 237 for 6 off 37 overs when Shanaka was dismissed. The sixth wicket partnership realized 92 runs and the Sri Lankans were far behind the required run rate conceding defeat by 48 runs. fell short of the target ending on 269 for 6. M. Markande picked 2 for 66 for the host team.
