I agree SLC is not to blame for the inclusion of Sanath as the Selectors are appointed by Sports Minister unlike all other countries except perhaps Pakistan and their Cricket Board( thats why Bomb blast affecting SL team due to their ignorance) and the pakistan team is disunited or else wud have performed better). Very soon what happened to P will happen to SL. There are rumblings that Kumar was to resign due to inclusion of Sanath.
The team was selected without Sanath and Chinthaka ( is it political) but the Sports Minister included them at expense of Upul and another.
Due to Sanath’s failures, The chairman of selectors shud take all comments appearing in at least 4 newspapers ( comments come from varied sources)and show it to the politicians and to Sarath or he must resign as his team was altered.It wont be long when even Kumar will resign and this time along with mahela because soon our standard will go down. This is one sphere where SL can be recognised and the Ministry shud only interfere if there is blatant misselection.

There is no doubt that Sanath has done a lot for the game of cricket.But his past performance does not merit him a place.If you think that just because he is a legend he should continue to play at the expense of young players people like Gilchrist,Shane Warne,Lara should still be in the team.recently Shane bond retired saying that he is quitting because he feels that he is not giving the best for the team.This is exactly what Sanath should do.He is using his political affiliations to be in the team.Shame on him.It is demoralising the entire team since he is in the team for wrong reasons.Sanath if you really love cricket please quit the game now so that some young energetic men can take the game forward.by continuing you will only be cursed by the very people who loved you.I am one of them.Be true to your heart and see your performance over the last two years.

we all know that sanath is the best batsman that sri lanka has ever produced. but cricket is not a place that one can stay for ever. sanath should be ashamed for coming back to the team. we saw in the news paper that Sangakkara had told that he will resin from cricket if sanath plays the T20 WC. I must say that we are with you for that brave decision. Also if a thing like that will happen i can assure you i will never watch sri lankan cricket again. i am talking as a real Sri lankan. sanath already has ruined his name. Now, Jeevantha Kulatunga the bowler. 4 Wickets in 25 overs , low E/R of 2.6 , 5 maidens, in yesterday (22/4/2010) Wayamba – Bas. North Inter Prov match.
All these while Kulatunga had been sidelined in the bowling dept. Muba had no option but to give Kulatunga bowling in this match since he has run out of bowlers because regular bowlers like Wela, Ajantha are out at T20 WC. Decision to giving some overs for a player to bowl is in the captains hands. While Muba as the captain was bowling more overs than any player in all the matches putting the teams winning the matches at risk even when the regular bowlers are present in numbers, Kulatunga despite his good bowling abilities, was never considered for a fair bowling opportunity. One eg, is in 2009 Prov, T20 final, when the opening pair was hammering the regular bowlers , Kulatunga was given one over and he broke the partnership taking a catch from his own bowling and if the couple of catches were not dropped he would have gotten more wickets, but he was not given to bowl there after.
However much you try to supress the talents, the real talent surfaces. You cannot go against the nature.
Kulatunga is an undisputed alrounder.

Most important thing is balance of the team. Every Team Depend there Openers, All rounders, Fast & Spin bowlers and Specially middle order batting line. Seeing Sanath in the squad is not a surprise to me at all. I think he’ll be in playing 11 as well. Organizing provincial T20 cricket tournaments is absolutely pointless because disgusting politics ultimately decide who goes and who stays. I consider Jeevantha is unlucky purely because Sanath is still around. Jeevantha might (!?) get a chance once Sanath is gone for parliament for good. Sanath cannot even cement his place in the Mumbai Indians because he’ not performing with the bat or ball. (Sachin is not stupid like our selectors). The fact is Star power does not win a game for you!!!!!!.
But what the hell Kapu and Mendis are doing in the squad. Kapu is terribly out-of-form and all cricketing world knows Mendis inside out. I’m glad that people like Mubarak is no in the 11. Sangakkara must be axed from captaincy. For me the best captain is Mahela. He is innovative and attacking. He knows how to win a game. Sanga is the best batsman but he is not the best captain!.(true he carried SL to the final last time). But stupid and inappropriate decisions have cost many games for Sri Lanka and as wll as for Kings IX Punjab.
I think we have to think out-of-the box to win this time around because other teams influxing with new thoughts to their game. E.G. Australia, India. Therefore I will not be surprise if Australia wins the world cup!!!
As a final thought I would dare love to see Mahela open the batting with Dilshan…….

How could Sanath get into this team, his current form does not justify his inclusion. Name of the player does not matter what matters is how he performs at the end. Another surprise inclusion is Chamara Kapugedara his current form is not too good either. What I don’t understand is why selectors are so stringent on Kulatunga his current form is a good indication of his talent & consistency. Pls don’t measure Jeevantha on his performances in the two Canada matches. He was very unlucky to have not scored in those matches like his not getting selected to national team despite his superb domestic performances.
Canada was a wet and relatively difficult pitch and everybody was struggling in Canada.
In Canada cup , Sri Lanka played four matches including the final.ie. Match 2,4 ,6 and the final. Sanath featured in all the matches. Jeevantha played only in match 2 and 6. Jeevantha scored 8 & 11 in the two matches given to him. You are blind on Sana who scored 1 and Mahela who scored 0 in the SL-Zim match in which Kulatunga scored 8. and, Dilshan 0 , Maharoof 2 (Match 4) and, Kandambi 0 in match 6 where Kulatunga scored 11 and, Mahela 5 , Muba 8 in final match. Get the video clips and watch them play as well. Also see the vedio clips of Inter- Prov T20 tournaments SL had so far in 2008/09/10 where Sri Laka national players featured with Kulatunga and last years Champeons league(which Kulatung earned with lot of sweat so selectors or Sanga could not cut him), and the other Inter Prov Tournaments this year and compare and then you will find that there are hundred and one reasons for the guys to scream about Kulatunga’s non inclusion in the squad.
Scores of some socalled strong International players in Canada cup are : Khan 9, Malik 9, Afridi 1, Sanath 1, Mahela 0 , Sana 8 , Dilshan 0 , Maharoof 2 , Afridi 5, latif 0 , Sana 14, Kandambi 0 , Mahela 5, Muba 8,Kapu 17., against very weak teams.
In their T20I debuts(2006/SL-Eng), Mahela was out for a duck, Dishan scored only 2 runs, Sanga 21 runs, Maharoof 8 runs, Chamara Silva 12 runs but later they got repeated opportunities in International games. So When Kulatunga is inform and still living, it is asin if he is not given a few international matches (a pinch of what has been given to others despite their repeated failiures), and the T20 WC is the ideal platform to exploit his talents.

sri lankan selection committee always favor for some players . Best example they pick Kapu ,Chinthaka, Kulasekera ahead of Thushara,Kulatunga and Vaas . They were not consider Vass even for the 30 squad . Going back to recent selections always political power invole for the selection. Keep it up selectors . Sanath has overstayed and has become a burden. What a shame. He should have retired with his dignity intact. Would’ve been nice to have Thushara instead of welegedara. Thushara is playing intelligent cricket in IPL. And Kulatunga is deserving over Kapugedera.
Even with this lop sided politically motivated selection let’s hope for the best for Sri Lanka.
