  • Udara Prasanga Dias

Suranga Lakmal allways should be in Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.

  • nnn

This is a good opportunity to Lakmal to perform well. But if he will fail like his in last tours, this will be his last tour. How ever its good to see that Thilan Thushara’s return to the team.
Because SL needed a left arm fast bowler like Vass. I think that Vass will be included In at least 2011 WC squad. Good luck for the SL team.

  • Indika

This was the perfect opportunity to introduce Senanayake to test cricket.Looks like he will be blocked for few years.Poor decision by selectors as usual.

  • roshan

    Dear Sir,
I cannot understand this to say the least. Why E u destroying the Future of
    DINESH CHANDIMAL..
he surely the best younger player..better batsmen than mathews??
Is it scoring a century in his second game the sin he did to be out of team???
    please send me answers…
HE SCORED A 100 in 4 innings that he played ( in the 2nd) for example one batsmen has played 82 odd matches continuesely with average less than 21 & no century but still in the side everyday. Chandimal score the century in his given oppurtunity. but he is left. In my view Chandimal can play in the test team too because he can displace Prassanna Jayawardena as Wicket keeper..because Chandimal was awarded the best fielder twoi years consecutively when he was a school boy..so no critics about his fielding/keeping skills & more he will add a GReat batting strength to the team. because he is the best & talented player in the team..look at his innig of 244 against SA A ..If you watched it you can not ever say he is a slogger..He is a well talented Over talented infact.244 from 401 balls spending 528 MINUTES in the crease means that he has the ability to play the long inning.
please give this letter to MR. Aravinda & selection committee & I need answers..please send them to my e-mail.

    • Sachindra

If Mathews to be dropped from this team then all others except Thilan ( Thilan, who has proper control over his batting ) should be dropped before him. We need batsmen who have skills to survive on difficult situation. There are equally good players of same skills like Chandimal in the country. The selectors who have no knowledge to pick these young prospective players have always tried to be on the safe side by getting behind all these seniors of fragile technique and seasoned ordinary club cricketers .

  • Kapila

    Moderator,
could you please upload latest photos from the world cup playing grounds in SL.

  • Sumeda

My view is simple. if a player is not performing well he should be rested and give the chance to a player who is in good form at that point in time regardless of the age factor. after all it is for their country that they are playing…

hope aravinda will open his eyes up..

ur comment is good i knw ..ur teling abt jeevantha kulatunga, indika de seram and vaas ….but i think above 3 should be play t20 international leval…aravinda should give chances to above 3 but ..in test leval i don;t think there are suit there are not suit …even onedayers …sometimes batsman like kulatunga ..can be suit for one dayers..anyway above 3 should play t20 international leval…

hope Thilan Thushara get a chance in playing XI …i’m not criticizing any players but this Dhammika Prasad, i saw him preformed well once.but.rather than that he only knows how to show his anger to the batsman from his face and make a crying baby face when he get hit for 4 & 6′s…lol

chandimal would not get any chance to settle in the national team in all three formats under the captaincy of sangakkara. chandimal , we knew how talented he is, but sanga’s politics keep away him playing in national side. chandimal , boy u are still 20, you can fly another country and after five more years later you can play for national side of that country,we as srilankans unlucky to see you are playing for sl but as cricket fans we can see your talents at highest level.

    • S.Ekanayake

Sangakkara always selecting his favorities (like Kapugedara, Tharanga, Chamara Silva, Dilhara …etc) but he could not give a chance talented players (like Chandimal) because those players may be thret to places of above players.

    PLEASE IGNORE MY PREVIOUS COMMENT
If they had considered quality spinners like Sachithra Senanayake, Umesh Karunarathna (One of the top allrounders in the country at present), S Prasanna, Rammesh Aberuwan or Amal Attapatu would have done a world of good to the Team rather than fast bowlers of no pace & no strength to bowl long spells who can be no threat to WI batsmen. —–As for Khausal Silva he may have to sit & wait on the bench for ever & carry water as in the case of many other brilliant players in the past like Ian Daniel (the Best batsman after Grahme Smith of SA of year 2000 youth WC & the best schoolboy batsman of year 2000) M Pushpakumara, Sajeewa Weerakone , Indika de Saram,… who were not given or hardly any opportunities to prove their class by the seniors who have had weaker skills than the 3. When a promising player is not given opportunities to prove his worth when his body is in its best condition & performing well, he may lose interest of his game in no time as in the case of many players in the past like Sanjeewa Warusamanne, Ian Daniel, Lahiru Peiris, Nilusan Nonis,…..My only wish is that the same fate of above brilliant players of the past wouldn’t be fallen on the current deserving players like Chandimal, Thirimanne,Angelo Perera,Dimuth Karunarathna,Umesh Karunarathna…
Incidentally Khausal Silva has all the necessary batting skills to replace any of the established players except Thilan Samaraweera, Tharanga Paranawithana,Angelo Mathews & Dilshan. (All were brilliant schoolboy cricketers of their time)As a result of the persons in power at the SLC of last 30 years were not qualified & incompetent for the job, many a batsman the likes of Anura Tennakoone, Roy Dias, Ranjan Madugalle, Sidat Wettimuny, Hashan Thilakerathne, Roshan Mahanama, Mervan Atthapathu, Duleepa Samaraweera….all had to retire prematurely & the quality batsmen like Sajith Fernando, Varuna Waragoda, Jeewantha Kulathunga, Chinthaka Jayasinghe, Indika de Saram, Lanka de Silva have never( or hardly) played for the country. The authorities should be cricketers who have some academic back ground the likes of S Skandarkumar, HSM Peiris, Micheal de Soysa, Ranjan Madugalle those who have all round knowledge of the game but not some ordinary cricketers who have represented country. —- I don’t think there is much wrong in making an statement like that, because once a player was selected as a opening batsman whose 1st Class Batting Average was around ‘20’(at the time) which is not enough for batsmen who has played well over 100 1class innings as an opening batsmen to tour Australia & Home series against England where both the ODI series were lost. Since then we have lost total number of 5 home series with all these favorite players of authorities. —–The most disheartening factor is that the same ordinary players have been repeatedly selected for the National teams when brilliant young cricketers are in abundance. If these promising young players were not absorbed into the National side at the right time they may lose interest of the game in no time as many brilliant cricketers in the past. For example reflexes, body movements & seeing the ball early are far quicker of young promising batsmen like Chandimal & Angelo Perera than aging Mahela & Sangakkara. If batsmen like Chandimal & Angelo Perera were allowed to bat at No3 & 4 positions in that disastrous 3rd ODI on the 7 XI 2010 we could have easily won that match too. Please note that skills of young promising players are more precious than the aging seniors because they are our Future. Please don’t be jealous over young deserving players earning huge sums of money by playing at top level in showing their class. The young promising players always better so pick them early as the Pakistanis did in the last youth WC in NZ. They have fielded a boy aged 15( Baba Azam) as a batsman who became one of the top batsmen in the tournament, a thing which our authorities even cannot think of and again it was young 20 year old New Zealander Setevenson ( in weather conditions foreign to him)who saved the match for NZ in the just concluded 1st Test between IND vs NZ. On the hand Englishmen they have no hesitancy in picking quality players when they see such players i.e. why South African born players like Kevin Peterson, & Jonathan Trott and Irishman Eoin Morgan are given 1st preference over many quality Englishmen.

    • Sachindra

The name of the young New Zealander should be corrected as Kane Wiliamson.

  • TRISHANE NONIS

IT’S GREAT IF SURANGA CAN MAKE HIS DEBUT IN THE LONGER VERSION.HE CAN BE A MATCH WINNER ON HIS DAY.
