Sri Lanka’s champion off spinner Muttiah Muralidharan has been ruled out of the ICC World T20 after suffering a groin strain whilst participating in the match against New Zealand.

Sri Lankan team Physio Tommy Simsek speaking to srilankacricket.lk revealed that Clinical tests revealed a Grade 1 strain of his right adductor muscle.

Murali will be advised to rest for 2-3 weeks, hence a replacement will be decided by SLC with the advice of the National selectors.

  8. Chalana says:

Jeevantha Kulatunga will be the best replacement.

Given his his “Fours” scoring ability he can play even down the line to hit it thro the ropes after PP overs. Trying to hit over the rope after PP overs is suicidal at the WI long boundary lines. So good “fours” hitter can score and survive in these conditions. Kulatunga is also a good six hitter, so can be deployed within PP overs successfully.
He is also good with the ball. ie. could be a bit fill in Murali’s vacuum when required. Jeevantha is also a good fielder, as good as Dilshan, so is the ideal choice in place of the out of form player.

  9. Muralidaran Ramesh Somasunderam says:

    Dear Sir,
I think Muralithran and Jayasuriya are experienced and professional players, and you cannot gain these type players overnight, how good a player may be in Sri Lankan domestic cricket. I suppose it is about getting a good mix between experience and inexperienced players in the team. In this case the loss of Muralithrann is a significant one, especially as the tournament is being held in the West Indies, and all wickets in the West Indies are not suited to fast blowers, as they were in the 1980s for example. Therefore based on this, and the aspect of verity and experience, it is a significant loss to the team, but I believe the Sri Lankan national cricket team is good enough to meet this challenge.
I wish Sri Lanka and its players the very best for this tournament.
    Yours Sincerely,
    M. R. Somasunderam.

I guess IPL is to be blamed, bcz too much of matches been played in the IPL for all players, more than 3 months IPL T20 tournament went onn.

When they come to play for their National Side they are getting injured, this is a big blow to our Sri Lanka team a player like Murli suffering from growing strain.

    Money makes many things? IPL

    Good Luck For todays match

Stupid captaincy of Sanga is causing problems for us. His bitter fight against Sanath cannot tolerate. He was very supportive on Mahela’s opening role. But against Sanath’s arrival. We need a lucky, smart captain…..not a parrot….only talking big things but in the middle doing blunders…..

  21. C Bernardus says:

Sri Lanka suffers a double blow – “Murali, ruled out, and the injury is Grade 1”

    Dear Sri Lankans

It is a pity that Murali has been ruled out by the test done on him and the injury is a Grade 1 injury. This comes at a time after loosing to New Zealand. When Murali is most required against the Zimbabweans, it seems like Sri Lanka suffered a double blow. Any way at a time like this we need to keep our spirits high and be positive by looking into the available ranks with the correct combination to suit the days proceedings.

In the earlier series when Murali was not available Suraj Randiv rose to the occasion. How ever all Sri Lankans will be with you and Team Sanga.

    Good luck,

    Carlton Bernardus
