New Zealand scrape through by 2 wickets over Bangladesh: Sharma 122* as India crush South Africa

Number 2 ranked India swept aside South Africa by 6 wickets on a superb all-round performance with Rohit Sharma scoring an unbeaten 122 after Chahal with 4 for 51 and Bumrah 2 for 35 had restricted the opposition to 227 for 9 in 50 overs at Southampton on Wednesday.

India’s tight reign over South Africa’s batsmen was reflected by just a top score of 42 by Chris Morris while the next best was by skipper Faf du Plessis’ 38.

Sharma was lucky to survive a dropped chance when only 1off Rabada, but broke loose from the eighth over of the Indian innings. It was No.3 ranked South Africa’s third world cup loss.

Meanwhile, New Zealand scraped home by 2 wickets in their world cup match against Bangladesh at the Kennigton Oval. Having bowled out the Bangladeshis for 244 off    overs, the Kiwis made 248 for 8 on the back of Ross Taylor’s 80-run knock while skipper Shane Williamson made 40. Bangladesh’s innings was built around a top score of 64 by Shakib Al Hasan as New Zealand’s attack was spearheded by Henry who reaped the fine figures of 4 for 47 with a spell of lively seam bowling. Ross Taylor was adjudged the Player of the Match.
