Ruwan Kalpage rejoins SLC

Former Test and ODI player Ruwan Kalpage rejoined SLC as the National Fielding Coach after a coaching stint with Bangladesh Cricket Board. Ruwan, who is widely acclaimed as a resourceful and knowledgeable coach, brought in a wealth of experience in coaching where his career spanned over a period of  10 years. SLC authorities are confident that Ruwan’s timely entry in to SLC Coaching outfit will spearhead national team’s painstaking campaign for coveted 2011 World Cup, the tourney that will be jointly staged in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Ruwan had a quite impressive cricketing track record, having played 11 test and 86 ODI matches for the motherland from 1992 to 1999. He had been a useful utility all-rounder who had anchored the middle order with some forceful and winning knocks especially in the shorter version of the game. He made his debut appearance for Sri Lanka in Tests against India in Colombo 1993 after donning national cap in ODIs a year before in 1992 against Pakistan.  Significantly, he was able to make a tremendous impact in ODIs in comparison to his Test record during his hay day in cricketing career.

Ruwan won many fans as he proved himself to be a trusted fielder with most secure hands during his era.  This forte skill has eventually made him a top notched coach in his area of expertise; fielding. Upon retiring from active cricket, he took to professional coaching by gaining international coaching qualifications. Coincidently, he embarked on his coaching career too with SLC where he successfully carried out some important coaching assignments in various capacities. Ruwan was indeed a pioneer in shaping the SLC Coaching Academy in its forming stage. Human Resources Department of SLC takes pride in congratulating Ruwan Kalpage on his new appointment with best of wishes for his future endeavors in local cricketing arena.

Ruwan Kalpage had a rough road when playing for SL..He should have been given more opportunities. more matches. He came to Australia in the middle of atour and was asked to play the day he arrived. He was a superb fielder and did not get much opportunities to do justice to his bowling. He shud be an assset to SL.
