Sri Lanka Cricket’s, Coaching Department launched its revised Level 1 Coaching Syllabus in March this year. The existing syllabus was subject to many changes & additions over the last 12 month period. Twelve Coaching Courses have been scheduled by the Coaching Department for the year 2010 under the guidance of it’s Coach Education Unit.
ICC Endorsement
The completed revised syllabus was done in conjunction with the ‘International Cricket Council’s approval, the governing body for the sport. In the month of August 2009 Sri Lanka Cricket’s Level 1 Coaching Course was classified & awarded the ICC Endorsement , for which incidentally Sri Lanka became the first Country in the world to receive this status.
With the endorsement of the ICC logo on the Sri Lankan Level 1 Accreditation Certificate, this would receive International recognition for Coaches who possess one.
Coaching Manual
The course is conducted over a four day period which includes an assessment conducted through communication & demonstration on the final day. All participants will be granted the entire syllabus (Coaching Manual) in printed matter, a high quality product of International standard for their future reference & better understanding, while the Coaching Manual has been published in English all Coaching points included in the manual has been translated into the Sinhala Language.
The syllabus contain areas such as, ROLE OF A COACH, COACHES CODE OF BEHAVIOR, PREPARATION, BATTING, FAST BOWLING, SPIN BOWLING, WICKET KEEPING, FIELDING, NET/GROUP COACHING, UMPIRES SIGNALS, WARM UP/ WARM DOWN.

Dear Chairman
Sri Lanka Cricket
My best wishes to the Coaching Department Staff headed by Jerome. It is a feather in the cap of SLC in the International Arena. I hope ACC will make a note of this and extend SLC a role to deliver Coach Education in Asia. Trust that the SLC representative at ACC will push forward our case.
I would further recommend SLC to deliver the Coaching Manuel to all the Coaches of SLC ranging from Level – 1 to Level – 4, in order to updated the Sri Lankan Coaching fraternity. It will be a step in the right direction if the Coach Education Department can issue a copy of this booklet to all Cricket playing Schools and request them to make a copy for all Coaches actively involved.
If we are to move forward, SLC must now extend a hand to the Coaching Department to setup a Coach Education Research Centre to keep updating the system from time to time.
Once again congratulations to SLC and its Board Members plus the Director Coach Education and all its support Staff.
Carly
