A half-century from Faf du Plessis led South Africa to a series-clinching victory in the third one-dayer against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Chasing 267 to win, the home team were 179 for five after 34 overs when rain ended play.

According to Duckworth-Lewis calculations South Africa were four runs ahead of Sri Lanka, giving them an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

The 27-year-old Du Plessis lifted South Africa from 52 for three with 72 off 74 balls, the highest of his three half-centuries, before he became the second batsman to be run out in the innings as he failed to beat a throw by Angelo Mathews.

Captain AB de Villiers then took over with an aggressive 39 not out off 36 deliveries.

Earlier, fast bowler Lasith Malinga put Sri Lanka on top by clean bowling Graeme Smith for two and Colin Ingram for 13.

Sri Lanka totalled 266 for nine after winning the toss. Their top four all scored more than 30 but only opener Upul Tharanga (58) managed a half-century.

Nuwan Kulasekara provided some impetus in the closing overs with 40 off 38 balls.

It has been heard over the news that Selection Committee is going to be changed soon: a very happy news. We should welcome it

And also captaincy is gonna be changed. Very welcome news. but the problem is that they are gonna appoint Mahela as the new captain. This is totally inacceptable. How can a failing batsman become a captain of the national side. This shows the pathetic situation of Sri Lankan cricket.

No doubt the Test Captaincy should be given to Thilan Samaraweera and if not Sangakkara. Noway that Mahela could be the skipper of Tests. Vice captaincy may be gone to either of the above players if none of them accepts the captaincy.

ODI captaincy shoudl go to Lasith Malinga or Nuwan Kalasekara and VC could be one of them if the other is the captain

ITS GOOD NEWS ALLROUND FOR SL CRICKET

After the consequetive sereis defeat for SL the selection committee understanding they are not fit to be selectors has reasigned from thier posts which is good and lets hope the upcoming committee would do better understanding that it is a tough challenge and a huge responsibility.
And another good news is that Jayawardena is likely to be the captain yet again who has got a tramondous record as a captain eventhough not as a batsman.
“I will have to think about it. I will need some time.” jayawardena replied when asked whether he would be the captain after the 3rd ODI.

ITS GOOD NEWS SO LETS HOPE SL’s MISERY WOULD END SOON AFTER CHANGES COME INTO OPERATION.
