Sri Lanka A beat Canada by 6 wickets in a limited over encounter at the NCC today. The visitors took first lease of the pitch after winning the toss. Canada was restricted to 180 for 9 wickets by the home team. The visitors found it difficult to cope with the seam and spin attack in their first outing. Nuwan Pradeep Fernando and Farveez Maharoof scalped 3 wickets each while up coming off spinner Sachithra Senanayake accounted for 2 wickets.
The Canadians lost wickets at regular intervals and were 101 for 7 wickets in the 35th over. Bhatti and Khurram Chohan batted with patience and put on a 59 run partnership for the 8th wicket. The visitors reached 180, which was too small a total against a strong home team batting line up.
Sri Lanka “A” won the match with 104 balls to spare, however they will be disappointed with the performance of the top order. Established players namely Paranavitharana, Mahela Udawatte and Kapugedera were out cheaply with the total on 75 for 4 wickets. Gihan Rupasinghe and Jeevan Mendis then put the home team on the right track with a 105 run unbroken partnership for the 5th wicket. Rupasinghe remained unbeaten on 74 with five boundaries and four sixes. Jeevan Mendis did well to support Rupasinghe and was unbeaten on 29 facing 55 balls. Both teams will play against each other on Monday the 25th at the same venue
