Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 18 runs

Sri Lanka won their second game in the SAG/ T20 tournament at Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi yesterday. Sri Lankan captain Ashan Priyanjana won the toss for the second time in succession and decided to bat first. Dinesh Chandimal and Dilshan Munaweera made 50 runs in the first five overs to set Sri Lanka on course for a total of 165 runs for 6 wickets, in their allotted 20 overs.

Dinesh Chandimal scored a brisk 34 in 24 deliveries while Dilshan Munaweera who made 63 runs in the opening game against Nepal made 24 off 17 balls. Skipper Ashan Priyanjana batting at number four held the innings together by contributing 25 runs off 28 deliveries, while all rounder Thisara Perera executed a quick fire 21 in the eight balls he faced.

The Bangladeshi spinners were expensive. Subhashish Roy took 2 wickets, but gave away 43 runs in his four over spell; Credit to the Bangladeshi seam bowlers Nasir Hossain and Asif Ahmed who bowled impressive spells in the depth overs and thereby controlled the run flow to a great extent.

Bangladesh in pursuit of 166 runs was bowled out for 147 due to regular loss of wickets at vital times. At the end of 15 overs the Bangladeshis were 114 for 6 wickets in comparison to the Sri Lankans who were 104 for 5 wickets. Anamul Haque top scored with 41, but the rest of the batsmen were disappointing to state the least.

For Sri Lanka Ishan Jayarathna scalped 3 for 30 in his four overs. Sachith Pathirana bowled 5 wides in two overs, and gave as many as 32 runs; however he managed to grab 2 wickets despite bowling too many lose deliveries. Thisara Perera bowled well despite being hit for a four and a six in his first two deliveries.

Sri Lanka did well to beat Bangladesh by 18 runs; however they face Gold medal favorites Pakistan tomorrow at 1pm in Mirpur.
