Sri Lanka Under19s took wing to Johannesburg on Saturday to play in a triangular one day tournament with India and host nation South Africa. The penultimate Tournament before the forthcoming world cup scheduled for January 2010 will consist of, two warm up games and four one day Internationals. Teams will play each other twice and the finals will be worked out at King Edward school ground on the 5th of January.
Sri Lanka under 19s captained by Chathura Peries and his deputy Kithruwan Vidanage, are one among the favorites in this year’s under 19s World cup. The team under the watchful eyes of Naveed Nawaz as head coach, Aravinda De Silva as a consultant and Upul Chandana as fielding coach, are an excellent all round unit who beat Australia in their own back yard in a five match, one day series in November this year.
Sri Lanka under 19s also won a triangular home series involving Pakistan and Bangladesh. The home team, in an exciting final got the better of the Pakistanis in an absorbing game at the P.Sara stadium on the 9th of December, with Deputy Skipper Kithruwan Vidanage adjudicated as the man of the mach for his unbeaten 72, that paved the way for a great win for the hosts.
