Sri Lanka Under-19 beat India Under-19 by 7 runs in the third one-day match at the Sinhalese Sports Club grounds on Saturday to take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series. Batting first, Sri Lanka Under-19 was all out for 220 in 49.3 overs and dismissed the opposition for 213 in 49.3 overs.
The Lankan innings was boosted by opening batsmen N.D. Paranavithana who made 51 off 73 balls inclusive of 6 boundaries and K.N.M. Fernando who scored 42 off 69 containing 4 boundaries. The pair laid the platform upfront posting 100 runs for the first wicket in 22.4 overs. Skipper Nipun Dhananjaya Perera then chipped in with a 51-ball 26 hitting 2 boundaries while the total was further propped up by L.N. Malinga making 24 off 31 hitting a six and G.S. Dinusha 20 off 22 with a boundary.
S.A. Desai, Y.D. Mangwani and A. Dev Goud claimed 2 wickets each respectively for the visitors.
The Indians having lost their first wicket for 25 reached 74 for 3 in 19.2 overs before the innings was steadied by Pawan Shah who struck a 94-ball 77 containing 4 boundaries and a six. However, the hosts kept a tight rein picking wickets at regular intervals as the Indians slipped to 212 for 9 in 49.2 overs when Shah was dismissed by N.D. Paranavithana which foiled the visitors victory hopes. P.W.S. Dulshan shone with the ball for the hosts with 3 for 37.
