Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan world cup match rained off: Lankans third in points table

Sri Lanka’s World Cup match against Pakistan was abandoned as a no result without a ball being bowled due to rain throughout the day at the County ground at Bristol on Friday with both teams sharing one point each. With the one point Sri Lanka and Pakistan with three points each moved to third and fourth positions in the Word Cup table behind New Zealand and Australia each with four points.

The Sri Lanka versus Pakistan match was the first of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup to be washed out with all the other 10 games played to-date completed despite some having being marred by bad weather.

The Rains at Bristol

The prevailing weather was so adverse that both teams left  their respective hotels  late in the afternoon.

The effects of the persistent rain were so bad that the possibility of play were totally lost with the playing square and the immediate surroundings under cover the entire day.

When the rain did cease around 2pm umpires Nigel Llong and Ian Gould inspected the ground at 2.30 pm and after a further inspection at 3.45 pm decided to call off the match despite the sun coming out as there watery patches on the outfield.

Sri Lanka will take on Bangladesh in their next world cup  match on Tuesday June 11 which on the form book of the Bangladeshis will be a tough call. Bangladesh created the first major upset in the 12 edition of the world cup when they shocked third ranked South Africa.

Sri Lanka lost their opening match to New Zealand while they beat Afghanistan having had to pull on all stoppers to wade off a strong challenge by the minnows in the tournament having been put on the back foot for a good part of the proceedings.
