2018 WOMEN’S ASIA CUP:
Sri Lanka Women lost their third match of the 2018 Women’s Asia Cup to Pakistan by 23 runs at the Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lampur today Wednesday. Needing 137 runs to win the Sri Lankan lasses made 113 for 9 in 20 overs. Pakistan Women, who were put into bat, totaled 136 for 4 wickets in 20 overs at a run rate of 6.8 an over with skipper Bismah Maroof making an unbeaten 60 off 41 balls inclusive of 7 boundaries. She put on 76 for the second wicket with opener Nahida Khan who made 38 off 34 balls containing 3 boundaries and a six. Sugandhika Kumari was the pick of the Lankan bowlers with 2 wickets for 18 in her 4 overs.
Sri Lanka Women got off to a good start posting 48 for the first wicket but lost wickets at regular intervals after the dismissal of the two openers Yasoda Mendis, who made 25 off 29 balls with 5 boundaries, and Nipuni Hansika with 24 off 22 with 2 boundaries. From there no substantial contributions were forthcoming as the Pakistani bowlers pegged them down bowling a tight line and length. Doing the damage with the ball for Pakistan was Nida Dar who claimed 5 for 21 in 4 overs. It earned her the Player of the Match award.
Despite this defeat Sri Lanka Women remained second in the points table ahead of Pakistan on a faster net run rate of 1.660 as against Pakistan Women’s 0.889 in third place from three matches respectively.
India lead the table with a net run rate of 5.200 from the two matches the reigning champions have played so far.
