The Caribbean ladies got the better of the Sri Lankan Women in the first ODI concluded at St Paul’s sports complex at St Kitts. The limited over lung opener was reduced to 33 overs due bad weather.
The home team chasing relatively an easy target of 130, faltered with three run outs. The West Indies women were struggling on 92 for 8 wickets at one stage of the innings. They lost 4 quick wickets for just 10 runs and looked down the barrel for an imminent defeat.
SF Daley and A Mohammed did well to establish a well compiled, unbroken 41 run partnership that helped the home team to win the game by 2 wickets with three balls to spare.
For Sri Lanka all rounder LE Kaushalya did well to score 32 runs batting in the middle order. She also impressed with the ball scalping two wickets for 24 runs in 6 overs.
For the home team three players impressed. PY Lavine made a brisk 22, while CP Jack was unlucky to be run out for 20. SF Daley batting in the lower middle order held the innings together to remain unbeaten on 23.
Both teams were guilty of leaking plenty of extras. The winners gave away 26 runs while the losers obliged the opposition with 20 extras by conceding 12 wides and a free hit.
The Caribbean women bowled 20 wides and 5 no balls which certainly gave the Sri Lankans a great opportunity which went a begging.
