Sri Lanka will be taking on England as a rejuvenated and a confident outfit after their thrilling win against India at St. Lucia. SLC’s Head of Coaching Jerome Jayaratne predicts a highly motivated Sri Lankan XI to take on the Englishmen today for the Semi Final of the ICC World T20 2010.
Jayaratne is of the view that Sri Lanka’s main batsmen Sangakkara, Jayawardena and Dilshan will approach the game with an added level of confidence knowing in the hindsight that its youth dominated middle order is finding form at the correct time. This degree of confidence can have an extreme positive impact on their mind set. This will be a key factor when Sangakkara’s men take on an English side which is heavily packed on batting. England who has batting strength in terms of depth and aggression is bound to test the Lankan bowling attack, hence Jayaratne predicts an inclusion of an additional spinner can upset the momentum of the Englishmen. Speaking to srilankacricket.lk, he expresses confidence in Sri Lanka’s batting ability to cope with the the English bowling attack.
According to Lankan team Manager Anura Tennakoon, Sri Lanka had a well earned rest yesterday and is not expected to make drastic changes to the line up. When queried Tennakoon mentioned the St. Lucia pitch for today’s match is expected to behave similarly to the one which hosted the Sri Lanka v India game.
Sri Lanka became the runners up of the previous edition of the competition, which was played in England last summer. The game is scheduled to get underway at 2100hrs (SL time).
