Thisara Perera, Malinga set up Sri Lanka’s nine-run win over England

Sri Lanka got their international campaign against England off to a winning start with a nine-run victory in the lone Twenty20 at The Oval on Tuesday.

After losing the toss, World Twenty20 champions Sri Lanka made 183 for seven thanks mainly to all-rounder Thisara Perera’s quickfire 49.

England could only manage 174 for seven, opener Alex Hales making 66 in an innings where Sri Lanka captain Lasith Malinga took three for 28.

The teams return to The Oval for the start of a five-match one-day series on Thursday.
