I join all the others in the country to wish the U19 National Team the very best in New Zealand. Having said that I wish to place on record that by the time SLC decided to follow a process it took some time. The initial squad preparation was not good enough and the practice scheduling was far behind.

How ever from around the month of August’09 onwards the planning was much better. It is my view that we played far to many trial matches and wasted time by not engaging the coaching staff in developing the skill and the game sense of the players.

Actual fact we have wasted the time of Aravinda [Batting Consultant] Naveen [Team Coach] and Upul [Fielding Coach] giving them a very short time to work on the skill level of the player. Also I wish to state that Anusha Samaranayake [Fast Bowling Coach] services should have been engaged on a regular basis and he should be with the U19 National Team and not Prabath Nishantha who is a trainer, not supposed to be a Fast Bowling Coach. If we had engaged the services of the Coaching Staff from the month of March and April’09 the team would have had a better understanding and developed far better and in good shape.

The tour to South Africa prior U19 ICC World Cup was to close to comfort and it would have been better if we had flown to New Zealand a few days a head of the normal ICC schedule.

How ever it should be taken stock of and arrested in the future. Having stated all this, I still wish the Team Management and the Captain and his Team the very best and hope you bring glory to Sri Lanka.

    Good luck

My Dear Cricketers of under 19 SRI LANKA.
IT IS GREAT PLEASURE & HONOUR TO PLAY FOR THE MOTHER COUNTRY.Dear sons ! you already have that great opportunity, now the time has ripe to prove yourself eventhough condition in NEWZELAND is like play in our own Nuwaraeliya…..you must have the courage & determination with very young body mind specially legs& hands, because fielding is the key factor for winning.
So dear boys how you play today it would be the direct ladder to the national team so all are a matter of time. Just be SRILANKANS follow the footsteps of VASSY,ARAVINDA,JAYASOORIYA,ROY DIAS,DULEEP MENDIS, ARJUNA ,MURALI,MAHANAMA,ASANKA,DILSHAN,MAHELA & SANGA.
FINALLY I MUST SAY WIN OR LOST PARTICIPATION IS THE BEST WITH THE DISCIPLINE OF GENTLEMEN’S GAME.
WISH YOU GUYS ALL THE BEST.’JAYAWEWA’
